NEW ORLEANS ― Saints safety Chris Reis will have season-ending surgery on the right shoulder he injured in the second half of New Orleans’ 16-14 win over Carolina on Sunday, an NFL source said Monday night.

Reis entered the game after Pierson Prioleau bruised his chest and a lung early in the second quarter.

The fourth-year player out of Georgia Tech had four tackles this season, all coming against Carolina. He was inactive for the first two games.

Reis has been a stalwart for the Saints on special teams throughout his career and recovered the onside kick to open the second half in the Super Bowl.

DAmn that sucks. I am six months out of surgery for a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Shoulder surgeries are a *****. I am not anywhere near 100%. Hes got a long road ahead of him. Best of luck Chris.

It was great watching him hustle out there on defense before the injury. He was clearly on cloud 9 to be playing with the real D.

Anybody know exactly what the injury was for Reis?

I dislike how it is always worded "Pierson Prioleau bruised his chest"...I don't recall the specific play but was it someone else that bruised his chest?

Reis broke a bone in his shoulder, that's all I've heard
