Although New Orleans has been nowhere near as productive offensively to start 2010 as in 2009, offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod is not particularly concerned. Talking this week, he said this year will be tougher than last but that the Saints will not continue to play nail-biters all season long.
Do you feel like the offense is getting the job done this year? “I feel like we’re coming along. Sometimes we might have an issue here and there, but that’s the game of football. It’s not going to be pretty every play, especially now when times are hard. We want to be as good as we can be play in and play out every week. We’ve got to continue to fight. That’s all we can do. It will come along the way that we want it to come along. A win is a win, and at the end of the day we’re worried about the win.” What does the success Ladell Betts and Chris Ivory had against Carolina say about this team? “It was much needed. That was something we put emphasis on every week, and for Ladell and Ivory to go out there and have the type of game they went out there and had, that was clutch for us. We just have to continue to build off of yesterday and continue to improve in the areas where we can get better because we left a lot of yardage out there. As a whole, starting with myself, we have to fight to get better individually and as a team.” Can anyone be plugged into this scheme and be successful? “Absolutely. That’s one thing coach (Sean Payton) harps on. If somebody goes down the way Pierre (Thomas) and Reggie (Bush) did, somebody else is going to get their chance to get up in there and gain some yards and try to get the job done.” How impressed were you with what Betts did? “I know the type of caliber player he is because I grew up kind of watching him because he played for the Redskins. That’s the area I’m from. I was very familiar with him. We knew the type of guy we had in Ivory, so we knew going into this game we could get the run game going because we still had two good backs out there.” Was Betts the difference between winning and losing? “Whoever we had back there would have done fine. That’s all you can ask for is for us to go out there and fight and execute. He found the holes and had a great game.” What kind of concern is there in the locker room with how you got to 3-1?
