When New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was at Purdue, his quarterbacks coach Greg Olson drove him down to Indianapolis to meet with young Colts star Peyton Manning to talk a little shop.

So naturally Olson, who is now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator, asked Brees to return the favor this offseason with his latest project, quarterback Josh Freeman.

Both Freeman and Tampa Bay backup Josh Johnson spent a week in San Diego working out with Brees this offseason, trying to glean whatever wisdom and inspiration they could from the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

"It was just a great opportunity to go out, get some work in and learn something from a great quarterback," said Freeman, who said the advice was more general than specific. "You get an opportunity to spend time with Drew Brees, who has been successful in the league for a very long period of time. And me a young quarterback, you like to spend time (with a veteran).

"We have Alex Van Pelt, our quarterbacks coach, who played in the NFL for a while, but we don't really have a veteran quarterback (on our team) who has done it like Drew has. It was an opportunity to go out and be around his work ethic and be around his personality. It was definitely a good experience."
