this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; hate to be the guy...but i dont think PT is going to be around next year. not because of the media portraying the "dog house" thing with payton. isnt he on a one year deal? with this injury sidelining him ...

PT's future as a saint

hate to be the guy...but i dont think PT is going to be around next year. not because of the media portraying the "dog house" thing with payton. isnt he on a one year deal? with this injury sidelining him for a while, i dont see them making him an offer that he will accept. he barely accepted his one year deal. if ivory plays decent the remainder of the season i believe he's a goner and we draft a rb to add depth. thoughts?
yes i know its early in the season

I think he's done this year and he definitely won't be back next year.

He'll either be with another team or on this team for a lot less money than he would like. I should mention that I'm a fan of the PT Bruiser.

I think it is really on him. He wants Jackson money and he is fooling himself to think he is in the same class as him.

Enjoy the offense you are in and make as much as you can but be realistic.

I'm hoping we can keep him beyond this year. Who knows what the cap will be, etc?

Speedy Ron - That is exactly my feelings on PT, I don't think he will be on the team next year. As for the rest of this year, I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints IR him at this point. Yes, he has been a great player for the Saints, but too often injured. I know the same can be said about Bush, but I don't see him going anywhere.

The Saints will have to address the RB situation during the next off-season. Looks like Ivory may be a keeper, Bush to continue as the all purpose guy, and don't forget about the guys on IR Hamilton and Hill should be back next year. I also think Jones has a very decent shot at sticking around, especially since he does possess receiving skills out of the backfield.

I realize this is a blanket statement and may be subject to available talent, but loomis and Payton have yet to cede value to rookie running backs. My theory is that they understand the short shelf life of the rb, so wasting a high and pricy draft pick on an item that tends to spoil is not part of their modus operandi.

They will bring in free agents and other late round picks where value is best, just like pt and ivory.

dont think it will be an early pick either. mid to late round pic and def 1 or 2 undrafted guys. lets hope our early picks go to def.
