Halloween brought about a great treat for the city of New Orleans as they watched their Saints look like the champions they are and defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-10. It appears as if the "Big Easy" wasn't the only city watching intently at the big defensive battle.
NBC's Sunday Night Football game between the last two Super Bowl champions drew an average audience of 18.1 million viewers nationally which was enough to beat out game four of the World Series. This year's October classic is being played between the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers.
Other shows easily beat by the Saints and Steelers included Desperate Housewives and Undercover Boss.
The record number of viewers belongs to another Saints' game and it was the opening contest of the 2010 season when the Minnesota Vikings visited the Superdome. That game drew 27.5 million viewers nationally.
Carried locally on WDSU-Channel 6, the Saints' victory scored a 48.7 overnight rating. Each ratings point equals 1 percent of the market’s total TV households, or about 6,360 homes. The largest overnight rating belonged to the city of Pittsburgh with a 52.2 according to NBC Sports.
New Orleans next takes the field on Sunday as they travel to Carolina to face the Panthers before heading into a bye week.
