Saints and Steelers draws bigger viewing audience than world series
1 Attachment(s)
Halloween brought about a great treat for the city of New Orleans as they watched their Saints look like the champions they are and defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-10. It appears as if the "Big Easy" wasn't the only city watching intently at the big defensive battle.
NBC's Sunday Night Football game between the last two Super Bowl champions drew an average audience of 18.1 million viewers nationally which was enough to beat out game four of the World Series. This year's October classic is being played between the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers. Other shows easily beat by the Saints and Steelers included Desperate Housewives and Undercover Boss. The record number of viewers belongs to another Saints' game and it was the opening contest of the 2010 season when the Minnesota Vikings visited the Superdome. That game drew 27.5 million viewers nationally. Carried locally on WDSU-Channel 6, the Saints' victory scored a 48.7 overnight rating. Each ratings point equals 1 percent of the market’s total TV households, or about 6,360 homes. The largest overnight rating belonged to the city of Pittsburgh with a 52.2 according to NBC Sports. New Orleans next takes the field on Sunday as they travel to Carolina to face the Panthers before heading into a bye week. From The Examiner |
Clearly. What else would the world watch given the choice?!! Even my friends in Worksop stayed up all night to watch. The Who Dat Nation is alive and well around the world.

A rebroadcast of the Sound of Music would have drawn a higher rating than the World Series this year.

MLB is diluted. 162 regular season games 7 game series throughout the playoffs. Weak.
And NBA/NHL just started? Diluted. The NFL is king because every game counts. That said, the NFL should slow down on putting games on Thursdays, Saturdays and even thinking about extending the season. |
its football season, not the other..... period

I love this part. Perhaps it is a defect in my character but I love it when so many of an opponent's fans tune in to see the Saints whup their team's butts! Thanks Mark! |

You guys that missed the postseason and the Giants, you missed out on something special. The Giants pitching and bats stepped forward in a major way and made all the talking-heads look like buffoons. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the baseball postseason this year...but to each his own. |

Can't watch baseball. I played for many years, but can't stay interested when watching it on t.v.
Football, on the other hand, keeps me interested. Basketball isn't even on the radar for me... my attitude is "who cares?". Hockey is ok, but I don't watch until the playoffs start. |

My Rangers lost... but I'm honestly not sad. We've come a long way and future of the franchise is finally looking up. Kudos to the Giants plug and play offense and outstanding pitching staff. At the beginning of the season who would have thunk it... Rangers vs. Giants in the World Series.

Some people love the Saints and Some people hate the Saint; but everyone is watching the Saints!!!!!
About baseball; I am a Braves fan (don't shoot me! lol) and I must say this was the first season of Baseball since the mid to late 90s that I actually followed. It was a very good year. But if the Saints are playing nothing else will get watched, world series or not lol |
