Merriman...Cut

i know 95% of people dont like the guy. cant help it. i want to give him a shot.

Chargers waived OLB Shawne Merriman.
Merriman passed his physical, so he appears to be over early-season calf and Achilles injuries. The Dolphins, 49ers, and Ravens have been connected with Merriman over the past few weeks, but they may wait to try to sign Merriman to a reduced deal after he clears waivers.

neugey 11-02-2010 04:14 PM

It's already November and he has no knowledge of Gregg Williams system. I'd say pass, go with the guys we got.

dizzle88 11-02-2010 04:24 PM

Danny Clark is better!! Merriman hasn't done anything since he got busted for taking steroids, Danny Clark is a team player and is really playing well at the minute that I think he should be the starter infront of shanle, in short, stick with what we've got lol

st thomas 11-02-2010 04:25 PM

the way were playing pass, unless get him at dollar store price.

Cruize 11-02-2010 04:35 PM

As a situational blitzer, he still has some value. But, as a high priced starter, he's done. They should re-sign Clark for next season based on his performance against the Steelers. Dude was a beast.

jcp026 11-02-2010 04:40 PM

Signing him doesn't mean he comes in and starts. Anthony Waters hasn't done much to contribute. Why not bring in a guy that at worst could equal the production of Anthony Waters and at best could be a disruptive force and one of the best pass rushers in the league?

Merriman's signing isn't very likely, though.

Halo 11-02-2010 05:31 PM

I'd rather see us picking up a veteran o-lineman. It's already weak this year, if someone gets hurt, good Lord!!

saintfan 11-02-2010 06:02 PM

Our D has been playing incredibly the last few weeks. If we have a roster spot I think it'd be better used elsewhere.

skymike 11-02-2010 06:43 PM

he'd be a better fit for the Ravens. Him and Ray-en-thal could start their own gang.

neugey 11-02-2010 06:52 PM

I seriously think Shawne Merriman should try out for the UFC. He's got the physique and attitude for it. I think his best football days are behind him.

RockyMountainSaint 11-02-2010 09:22 PM

This would be akin to signing Fat Albert. No thank you.
BTW, have you noticed the Saint's defense this year?
Pretty darn good.

Crusader 11-03-2010 05:25 AM

He's not better than anyone we already have.

In regards to Merriman coming to the Saints...

"Time to diiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

SapperSaint 11-03-2010 07:17 AM

I say we get another player. We are "OK" at LB.

He's not better than anyone we have? Anthony Waters. Besides that, talent wise he's better than most of our linebackers. He might not fit the scheme as well, but our linebacking corp is one injured Jonathan Vilma away from being a complete joke.

look for him to join the WWE as a tag team with Bill Goldberg...watch

papz 11-03-2010 10:39 AM

He seems to be a one trick pony these days... and not doing a very good job at it either. With that said, if he was willing to accept the league vet minimum for the rest of the year and rotate with Clark on third downs, I wouldn't mind showing him some interest. In that situation, it's not like we would be investing much and the rewards far outweigh the risk.

darstep 11-03-2010 10:41 AM

Cheap...Cheap...Cheap. just as long as its Cheap!

Euphoria 11-03-2010 10:52 AM

I don't think he will fall to us.

Someone will put in a waiver for him ahead of us.

I say get him... I think he'd be worth it and we can use the upgrade at OLB. Our guys are getting blown up on the outside runs off tackle.

Rugby Saint II 11-03-2010 12:26 PM

Vilma is a great veteran leader. Shanle is better than adequate. Danny Clark is coming on strong and the rotation is decent. It's mid season and I believe that we're good until next season.
