At the beginning of this week, the Minnesota Vikings abruptly waived all-star wide receiver Randy Moss after he spoke out against the team and city. On Tuesday, he was officially placed on waivers meaning teams have until 4:00 PM ET / 3:00 PM Central on Wednesday to put a claim on him. Teams with the worst records have first shot at claiming Moss and would owe him the final $3.388 million of his 2010 salary if they pick him up. If no team claims him, then he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

One has to wonder...would a Randy Moss experiment work in New Orleans?

Ok, first of course is the fact that the Saints have a group of wide receivers that runs very deep and has a lot of talent, but let's really look at how they have performed so far this year:

* Marques Colston - two touchdown receptions through eight games
* Robert Meachem - big-play receiver who hasn't really seen the ball much this season
* Devery Henderson - another big-play receiver that has been almost invisible at times and dropped the ball at others
* Lance Moore - has stepped up production in the past few weeks, but will he disappear again once Reggie Bush returns?
* Courtney Roby - kick return specialist who is barely used on offense

At any given moment, one or more of those guys could break out and truly become a serious threat. They've all done well this year, but not up to the usual standards we have come to see from them. But then again, the offense as a whole hasn't really played up to par but that's a whole other story. Moss would not only add star power (not like it's needed), but add a big time threat that could generate double teams and open the game further for Colston, Meachem, and company.

I'm not saying it's a great idea, but it certainly isn't a bad one. Many of you may be saying that the Saints "don't need that kind of trouble or distraction" on the team. While it's true that Moss can be a huge distraction, garner a lot of attention, and has been known as a prima donna; I'm not entirely sure his past would be an issue in New Orleans.

ESPN's senior analyst John Clayton said, "The Saints have shown a willingness to let guys revive their careers in New Orleans (see Jeremy Shockey and Jonathan Vilma) in the past. Drew Brees owns that locker room and is powerful enough that he wouldn't be pushed around by Moss."

It is not often that I agree with Clayton, but he hit the nail right on the head there. Not only would Brees not allow Moss and his attitude to take over, but coach Sean Payton would have none of it on his team. Jim Mora Jr. said on Tuesday that he knows "Brees would not give Moss the chance to take control of that locker room because it is his team and it runs perfectly already."

So his numbers (22 rec for 313 yards and five TDs) haven't been great this season while spending time with both the Patriots and Vikings. The man could still be very useful on the field even if he isn't pulling in huge stats. Look at Reggie Bush. He hasn't garnered the stats anyone thought he would since being drafted, but he is still a force on the field even when he's not touching the ball. Payton's offensive genius uses Bush, and other players, as decoys which opens up the game for countless other players. Moss could be used in much the same way but also provide a huge play when necessary.

While Moss likes to run his mouth and draw attention, he's still not nearly as bad as Terrell Owens, Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, and a host of others. I honestly don't even feel as if Moss would be as much trouble as former Saint Kyle Turley was. The Saints are a well-oiled machine and a lot of you fans may be saying that we don't need to mess with something that isn't broken. It may not be broken, but many things this season could sure use a tune-up.

It's true that it's a long shot the Saints would even get a shot at him, but if they do then I believe it is in their best interest to really think it over. An extra spark could push this team to new heights and bringing in a wide receiver that has played with quarterbacks the caliber of Tom Brady and Brett Favre is not a problem, but a gift.

But...is he worth it still?

It's sad. All the natural attributes a WR could ever want but the mindset of an imature 15 yr old. The way he quit on that play recently says it all.
That was a TD, all he had to do was stick his arms out. Maybe our receivers don't have the skills he does but they wouldn't quit like that.
