Saints do what they suppose to do in a win against a bad team.

A lot of people weren't sure how the New Orleans Saints (6-3) would play coming off that huge win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. Traveling to Carolina to face the Panthers (1-7) wasn't anything to take lightly and the boys in black and gold sure didn't.
It was once again the defense leading the way as the Saints defeated the Panthers 34-3 in a game full of injuries for both teams.

A returning Jabari Greer returned an interception for a touchdown, but that was only part of the beatdown for a Panthers' offense that is ranked last in the NFL. New Orleans racked up four sacks and held Carolina to a mere 195 yards of total offense (68 passing). The Panthers went through three quarterbacks as Matt Moore started and was injured. Then rookie Jimmy Clausen came in and was inaffective which saw him replaced by rookie Tony Pike.
Greer's touchdown was the first defensive score for the Saints this season.

Drew Brees on the other hand passed for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception that led to Carolina's only score. A fumbled snap and quick pass saw the ball bounce off of Robert Meachem's arm and into the hands of Richard Marshall who returned the pick 66 yards to the New Orleans 28-yard line.
After holding them to a field goal, it was all Saints from that point on.
Brees' day didn't have to be huge because he was aided by a rushing game that finally flourished again and without starters Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. The Saints racked up 165 rushing yards, but the bulk of it came from Julius Jones who broke free for 54 yards on the first play of the game.
Injuries were a big issue though as both teams were already dealing with a number of them coming into the game, but then lost a handful of players each in the duration. Already playing without running back DeAngelo Williams; backs Jonathan Stewart (head) and Tyrell Sutton (ankle) had to leave the game due to injuries.
The Saints lost tight end Jeremy Shockey after his touchdown reception in the first quarter with what looked like it might be a kidney or rib injury. Shockey was hit hard on the catch and taken to a nearby hospital. He later returned to the stadium, but there was no update on his status.

Good to see this team not play down to the level of their competition for a change. Losses to the Browns and Cardinals were embarrassing and they didn't seem to have that fire in those games... this Sunday was different. They had pride in their game and kicked some Panther arse.

They weren't exactly playing elite ball before we played em which is why all us fans were demoralized and baffled, perhaps that win against the "SUPERBOWL CHAMPS" gave them a momentum boost.. Beating fresh champions only helps your locker room psyche, Look at the Falcons..

That's exactly what I needed to read. I'm at the point where the irony is bothering me... although I think the Browns are turning out to be a LOT better than people imagined.

How many running yards did they have yesterday??
