Resting players
Say we get the wild card and can't move up or down in the seeding when we play Tampa the final game. I'm pretty sure the Saints would start resting players for the second season. Maybe even start Chase. With all the injuries we've had and having to play an extra game in the playoffs it just makes sense.
with all the teams still fighting, but we, yes if its doable i'd be ok to sit some of our beef.
Tampa is only one game behind us. There are also a lot of teams with equal records or one game behind us in the run for the Wild Cards..... You dont rest unless you clench your division.

This year the NFC playoff picture is too close, right now anyway. If things continue the way they are now, I don't see many teams having the opportunity to rest players...
We no-resta no body
In the extremely hypothetical situation that our last game against Tampa would have no bearing what-so-ever on the NFC playoff picture, I would treat it like preseason game #2. Play the first string for about a half.
IMHO... we have a better chance of the entire Atlanta Falcons football team coming down with elephantiasis of the nuts than there being a last game does not count scenario for us.....
However this is the NFL. And if the stars are going to align that perfectly for us, they may as well give us NFC South champs and Home Field for the NFC Championship game against Carolina.... I am just sayin. |
We're gonna get a 1st round bye. Its inevitable.
Too early to say, but yes, of course we would, just like last year vs Carolina.
There are way too many things that have to happen to lock us in to one slot or the other. Right now, of the NFC North 2nd place team, Philly/NYG, and us and Tampa, only 2 of those 4 teams will make it. Hard to imagine the last game being meaningless. |

Of course if it came down to the end and there is nothing to gain, of course the Saints are going to rest players if their playoff position is sealed. Of course lets not get ahead of ourselves, there are 5 games left, the Saints need to win a minimum of 2 just to stay in the hunt.

I agree though, if wildcard is locked, with NO chance of clenching the division, then we rest. But I'm with everyone else, there are too many teams in the NFC that are too close to make the last game meaningless. But, it is the NFL...there's alway that any given Sunday thing. |
If someone is banged up yes. If its just to not risk injur I'd say no. Better keep momentum and keep rust away IMHO.
Ok. I will play along.....
If that scenario plays out... Who can we rest? Some players have had most of the season off and need that game to get rid of rust. Need Rust removal. Thomas Bush Sharper Shockey Your going to Bench? Brees Ivory Colston ...... I need more details before I am just going to say... Rest them... Rest who? |
Five games left, things could really get UGLY. Getting in is key. NO ONE rests until we know we are in. Home field is paramont...once your are in. Only those in I.C.U. rest while going for home field. Everyone hurting and tired should have gotten some rest 3 weeks ago. Its time to go.
Nice idea but can't see any sort of clinch before playoffs.
Put a fork in this one...
To clinch the division and make the TB meaningless, Atl needs to lose 3 of 4 and we go 4-0. Unlikely To clinch the WC the Giants, Tampa and either NFC North team needs to lose 2 of 4, and again, we go 4-0. More likely, but still little chance and the exclamation point is that last year SP didn't care about momentum or a losing streak and Brees took a total of 10 snaps in a 3 week period |
Restin players? I thought 1/2 the team was out.
If when we get Raymond James we have a chance at home field then we play, if the seeds don't mean anything then I sit everybody lol. I want no Wes Welkers on this team. Great Player, Perfect example.
