Resting players
Say we get the wild card and can't move up or down in the seeding when we play Tampa the final game. I'm pretty sure the Saints would start resting players for the second season. Maybe even start Chase. With all the injuries we've had and having to play an extra game in the playoffs it just makes sense.

Tampa is only one game behind us. There are also a lot of teams with equal records or one game behind us in the run for the Wild Cards..... You dont rest unless you clench your division.

IF losing wont effect our standings in the playoffs I say rest. Although that scenario is highly unlikely and I doubt Payton would anyway.

This year the NFC playoff picture is too close, right now anyway. If things continue the way they are now, I don't see many teams having the opportunity to rest players...

In the extremely hypothetical situation that our last game against Tampa would have no bearing what-so-ever on the NFC playoff picture, I would treat it like preseason game #2. Play the first string for about a half.

IMHO... we have a better chance of the entire Atlanta Falcons football team coming down with elephantiasis of the nuts than there being a last game does not count scenario for us.....
However this is the NFL. And if the stars are going to align that perfectly for us, they may as well give us NFC South champs and Home Field for the NFC Championship game against Carolina.... I am just sayin. |

Too early to say, but yes, of course we would, just like last year vs Carolina.
There are way too many things that have to happen to lock us in to one slot or the other. Right now, of the NFC North 2nd place team, Philly/NYG, and us and Tampa, only 2 of those 4 teams will make it. Hard to imagine the last game being meaningless. |
