NFL has activated the new Favre OT rule

Both teams will get a possession in overtime unless the first possession results in a touchdown in the Post-season.
NFL made this announcement at the beginning of this year a few months after the Saints NFCC game where they thought Favre was an automatic for the Playoffs and thought saints would just lay down, since he lost and Saints re-wrote their pre-determined history book they are taking precaution their hopes and dreams don't get crushed again.

Is that the rule where the trailing team can't kick a field goal to tie, but have to go for a touchdown to win???

I don't know exactly how I feel about this really. So what if they keep kicking field goals, how long are they going to allow these games to go? What if it takes 5 OT's... how big of a disadvantage would it be for teams going into their next week game playing that much football? Are they going to allow more roster spots?

I'm gonna laugh when we ride this rule into the SuperBowl.

Imagine how you're gonna feel when Hartley lines up to kick that FG. LOL

My wife and I were talking about this just this morning.

NFL's new overtime rule will be in effect for New Orleans Saints' playoff opener vs. Seattle Seahawks

For the first time this weekend, the NFL will implement a change to its sudden-death overtime rule. During the playoffs, the first team with the ball will have to score six points to end the game on its first possession. If the first team scores only three points, then the other team will get one opportunity to tie the score or win the game. If the game is still tied after each team has had one opportunity to possess the ball, it will revert back to sudden death.

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said he doesn't have any specific strategy in mind for how to handle the new rule.

"I think you'll pay attention to how the game is progressing," Payton said. "How the first four quarters have gone would predicate your decision on how you would handle it."

I would laugh so hard if this ended up benefiting the Saints somehow. I would probably fall off my couch laughing so hard.

Yup @ Papz, a team has to score a TD (6 points) to win it.. The NFL didn't quite think that one through if you ask me..
I guess they are just depending on a team to eventually give in or ware down and allow the other team to score..
The rule allows the game to go on for an unlimited amount of time, if both teams really wanted to screw with the NFL rule board they could just keep allowing each other to kick field goals for an additional 1 hour and laugh about it after their seasons are over.
