Chris Ivory done for the season

Saints placed RB Chris Ivory on injured reserve with an ankle injury, ending his season.

Scratch him off your playoff league cheat sheets and upgrade Pierre Thomas. The Saints never updated Ivory's condition after he was spotted on crutches Sunday night, but it's obviously a long-term injury. Ivory's loss is a considerable one for New Orleans. The rookie had given the offense its first legitimate between-the-tackles chain mover since Deuce McAllister's prime. With Thomas (ankle) and Marques Colston (knee scope) also banged up, the Saints have serious injury concerns heading into the playoffs. Jan. 4 - 4:22 pm et

Saints Place Ivory on IR; Sign Wynn

saintfan 01-04-2011 03:30 PM

well that sucks donkey balls

|Mitch| 01-04-2011 03:31 PM

This ain't good!

niteadept 01-04-2011 03:35 PM

Dayummm! Time to shine Reggie.

UK_WhoDat 01-04-2011 03:36 PM

And so the Saints' defense over 4 games of their SB becomes a extremely difficult.

neugey 01-04-2011 03:39 PM

Not good. Get better Pierre, because Julius Jones had a horrible game Sunday, and Reggie can't do it all by himself.

WhoDat!656 01-04-2011 03:40 PM

Still have PT, Bush, Jones & Wynn.

I would be a little more worried if the Saints were playing any team other than the Seahawks.

Saints will be fine.

dizzle88 01-04-2011 03:41 PM

PT and Reggie need to step up, hope PT is healthy. Reggie looked good last game, lets hope he continues to play like that.
I gotta say even though this is bad news, i kinda expected it, Ivory hasn't been healthy for any 3 games in a row, numerous injuries - only one needs to be bad to have him end up on IR.
But hey, he had a good rookie season, hes a fan favourite

Beastmode 01-04-2011 03:52 PM

The last few season we'll have a game or two where the RB takes over and gives Brees a break. Ivory did that, it was a little shaky at first but he settled down. I had a bad feeling he wasn't going to hold up with his history but he did the best he could and made a lot of progress in a short span so I commend the man. He left it all on the field unlike a lot of players.

can't argue there beast but what do we do next year;wait to see if he will hold up or go after fresh meat in the draft.

CheramieIII 01-04-2011 04:03 PM

Look we did it without Ivory last year and we can do it again.

Maybe yousa right with PT, Bush, Jones (oh deary lord) and Wynn (no carries since I was reborn).

Now remember we are trying for a repeat - one game at a time. So what happens if we beat the Seahawks and your "I would be a little more worried if the Saints were playing any team other than the Seahawks" kicks in?

true guido, thats the way you play the game. someone goes down someone steps up.

xan 01-04-2011 04:18 PM

I think that given Bush and PT have had 5 games instead of 16, a few between the tackle runs won't wear either of them out. They've got fresh legs.

Still a bummer.

73Saint 01-04-2011 04:30 PM

I was really really hoping to see Ivory in the backfield for the playoffs. I know we can do it w/o him, but this still sucks As$!!!!

The staff will use sound reasoning and make the right call but I have a feeling Ivory and PT won't be back next season. They'll likely get a solid veteran and bring in a late rounder or some undrafted talent that needs some polishing.

Saintswrath 01-04-2011 05:13 PM

That'll probably end his football career with the Saints.

Saintswrath 01-04-2011 05:14 PM

I say we bring in Deuce.. lol I JUST KNOW HE'S HUNGRY! but out of shape.. too bad he's officially retired, dunno if you can come out of retirement.

MatthewT 01-04-2011 05:25 PM

Serious blow to the Saints, especially with PT still hobbling around. This could turn out to be the kill shot for this season. Hard to believe the Saints have been unable to keep one RB healthy this year. RB position has just escalated to a position of need this offseason.

This is NOT good news, but certainly not the end of the world. If PT wants that big contract, well, the ball is in his court, it's up to him now.

Rugby Saint II 01-04-2011 05:55 PM

It's hard for the next man step up when he's still in his street clothes. Wynn probably won't even have a playbook yet. At least he is familiar with the system......anyway, why did we cut him?

Speedy Ron 01-04-2011 05:56 PM

it really aggrevates me when people question why the coaches played him. its freaking football. if you cant stay healthy for more than one game at a time you have to go. he is a waste of a roster spot. yes he is good but he is worth nothing if he plays one game and then sits out 3 or 4. the rb position has become a real weakness on our team. PT is good but not a feature back type. reggie is no way close to a feature back. ivory cant play a full game so a whole season is out the question. dont be surprised if we draft one in round 2 or 3. man i wish we would have grabbed blount when he was floating around. he would have been perfect with PT.

ClintSaints 01-04-2011 06:36 PM

:( :( :( :(

Very sad now, because apparently the Saints' coaching staff were the only ones who didn't realize that the Falcons were going to maul the Panthers, thus making the Bucs game totally irrelevant.

ClintSaints 01-04-2011 06:38 PM

I wish the Saints had grabbed LT when Drew Brees first mentioned it on Twitter. It was discarded at the time as a bad idea, but that was when Lynell Hamilton was going to take over the duties that Mike Bell left behind. Then both Bush and Thomas got injured badly and missed most of the season. It would have been nice to pick up LT when they had the chance.

I was fine with getting LT. He had a decent year for an older back and he stayed healthy. Thing is, we had more than enough talent at the time to get the job done so I got the decision to go another direction. I wouldn't even say it was a toss up. What team loses about 7 RB's in a season. It's just uncommon and something that you can't do anything about but keep signing em' off the street and drive on.

ClintSaints 01-04-2011 08:17 PM

Hey wait a minute. What in the world are we all worried about? We have Adrian Arrington on the roster now, and that dude is a BEAST! He can catch passes like there's no tomorrow and I'll be very curious to see if he scores a touchdown on Saturday.

ClintSaints 01-04-2011 08:20 PM

That's true and I was also curious to see what PJ Hill could do. Remember him? I thought he had a ton of potential and then he got injured during the pre-season. Sigh.

AsylumGuido 01-04-2011 08:22 PM

Chill. All is fine. We have everything we need to repeat. Relax and enjoy the ride.

This sucks big time

pakowitz 01-04-2011 11:03 PM

also heard that Jenkins could be done for the year too

AlaskaSaints 01-05-2011 01:24 AM

L. O. Effin L! We are so decrepit,

Never gonna forget the way he flattened that linebacker last week, though. Hell, that alone was jersey-purchase-worthy!

If Jones would just change his number from #21 he'd run better. Mike Bell couldn't BUY his way back to the line of scrimmage during the post season last year! Now he's running just like him...

We haven't seen a Porter pick-six in so long they are showing us one in a commercial on NFL Network to give us a reason to hope for another.

Okay. I'm depressed enough to go to sleep now...

Damn! it was only a matter of time ( short at that ) till he got injured, that boy runs b***s out .
