I'll look in on the playoff games, but I'm already waiting for McShay & Kiper to offer their "insight" on the next "guy"...
Saints didn't get much for Jammal Brown, but at least it's a high third (3) round pick... |
Tell you who I really miss right about now...Hagan

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: BRUCE CARTER, OLB, NORTH CAROLINA Bruce Carter | North Carolina Tar Heels Scouting Report The Saints didn’t plan on losing Scott Fujita as a free agent last offseason but when Cleveland made the outside linebacker a deal he couldn’t refuse it left New Orleans in a bind. Granted the team has some youngsters they seem to like but they are all unproven and at this point that hole on the weakside sticks out like a sore thumb. North Carolina’s Bruce Carter is an extremely fast, smooth and athletic ‘backer Bruce Carter | North Carolina Tar Heels with a flair for the big play. As an added bonus Carter also excels on special teams and is arguably the best kick blocker in all of football, college or pros. Carter, who should really turn heads and impress in pre-draft workouts, would represent a major upgrade on the weakside and finally solidify the position once and for all. The Saints could also use some reinforcements at defensive end opposite Will Smith, where Alex Brown is more of a journeyman and there's little or no quality depth to speak. |

Can someone help me out? How do I start a new thread?

I wish I knew. I've never figured that out.

I think it's worth reviewing how the feelings were before last year's draft. After a dominant offensive performance during the 2009-10 season and winning the SB, fans were thinking the Saints needed to upgrade the D to make a team of dynasty.
But, rather than go all out on D as some put forth at the time (and some are now), the team picked up these guys: Graham - We all know what he showed and his potential Brown - With the lack of run blocking at times this season help/competition on O line can only be a good thing. Tennant - See above Plus even though our first pick was on D, a DB was not where most though our weakness was. The team is in a similar position now in that due to the playoff performance, a glaring need to shore up the D is perceived. But looking at the upcoming draft, it's worth noting that our D rankings improved drastically this year with the exception of turnovers. Now that is an important stat, but it can be argued that many turnovers are a result of lucky bounces. Sure, some of it is how teams are coached, but many here have griped about the "strip the ball tackle technique the team used during the year too. Also, unlike last year when everyone felt great about our offensive weapons, this season showed that our RB situation is questionable at best. In addition, our WRs on the whole underperformed as a group. Colston and Henderson definitely regressed and far too many balls were dropped all year. Heck, if our WRs had caught balls like Seattle's did in the playoff game we'd still be alive. I know I expect to see as much of an improved performance from both those two groups as I do from any of the defensive units if they want to be a dynasty team. So, while I feel like the D side of the ball needs upgrade (LB or DE first), I don't think it's as cut and dry as saying "Go get pass rush help!" Payton has shown, on and off the field, that he plays by his own rules and as such, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see an influx of new offensive talent in the draft. I'm not so sure I'd be disappointed in it either. That type of thinking may have landed us the best TE the NFL has seen in a long while. |
Regarding Draft and Needs at OLB...
I see alot of Shanle bashing on this site and at the two games I went to and I don't like it and this is why... While at the games I saw Shanle make several tackles and heard people holla how he was beat, again, that sort of thing... And when you looked at the replay another LB or DE failed to drop into coverage and he was providing support... Sure he's no All-pro, but he's a consistent, good, solid pro and I for one admire him, his effort and ethic, and am glad we have 'em... Now if an outstanding talent AND character is available when the Saints select or have an opportunity to move to a spot, sure, but the more glaring weaknesses exposed late and in the playoffs were Running Back/Power Back, Strong Safety/Safety Depth, Defensive Tackle/End, Offensive Right Tackle... |
Is Matt Tennant going to replace Goodwin this season?

This is Bruce Carter waving "hello" to Shanle's starting spot.

Don't be surprised if he's playing opposite Shanle... |
You know what pisses me off...last year this time when some big markets teams were out of the dance...
...every major website turned NFL coverage to the draft... ...so where's the coverage this year, slugs?!? |

Not too bad, but some big misses with Sedrick Ellis (for what we gave up to move up) and Robert Meachem (big reach as a No. 1 pick)...
Liked the Al Woods pick (DT) but he didn't pan out; like to hear why? Had a man crush on Clay Matthews in '09; time and this season has proved Jenkins to be a solid pick; though I think Matthews would still have been a better selection... Would like to see Arrington finally get some PT to develop; liked his selection... 2007 was a forgettable draft aside from Bushrod, Mitchell; and one which still has its effects... But the Colston pick in R7...wow...God Truly Smiled On the Saints... |
It's time to add someone to the front seven that offenses fear. In five drafts, Payton has only drafted one - Ellis. Whether it's DE, DT or OLD, It's time to get that impact player.
I think that despite injuries, the coaching staff is still high on J Casillas at OLB. I'd love to see Carter play opposite he and Vilma. But we MUST get another true starter at DE. Speedy, edge rusher, PLEASE |

When Scouting, Saints should have the Safeties "intercept" a ball in an endzone and sprint it coast to coast... |

After watching Seattle and its lack of WR's, wonder if we could trade Devery for a late R4 pick?
|
Watched, painfully, the wildcard playoff game; not so sure we shouldn't be looking for both a center (unless Tenant is ready) and a right tackle (Stinchcomb) that isn't worth his salary...
|
Camron Heyward no doubt with our coaching staff he would be what we need pass rusher up the Middle and Thank you Iornhead for the memories will wear #34 on draf:bng:t day rest in peace

This is Sean Payton's team...we will draft a RB in Round 1 or 2 after what happened in Seattle.

I meant Deuce, but Reggie did fine for us for a couple years, just not great. He did revitalize this team with Brees and Payton so I'll always be thankful for that. |

...But can you imagine if we'd had Deuce this season?!? Wonder if we can extract DNA, use an Imperial Cloning Accelerator and have 'em ready for training camp... ...point is: Geez, Did we miss Deuce this season... |
R1/24 Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas State
A big bruising back with only two years of Div I collegiate football miles on 'em; he's a big back with some burst that the Saints haven't had since Deuce; he is a former JUCO AllAmerican; he was the main focus of KState's offense this past season which under Bill Snyder's passer friendly system, says alot. This is, my friends, is Deuce Redux... R2/56 Quinton Carter, S, Oklahoma Go to Roman Harper's Wikipedia page and you'll see 'em swinging a golf club; picking Carter would help 'em stay there; he has excellent coverage skills at S: Fluid, Good Angles, Smart and has excellent community track record; not sure he's be there this late but would be a steal at this slot ... R3/72 Jarvis Jenkins, DT, Clemson Big Defensive Tackle, who can rush the passer and occupy multiple blockers; teamed with Ellis, it could allow the Saints former first round pick to finally put up numbers he was unable to do on his own... R3/88 Thomas Keiser, OLB, Stanford Big linebacker, comparable in size to Fujita; played well in the Stanford's 3-4 alignment, but get this...was an All-American Freshman as a Defensive End; this guy has a year left, but is an Academic Senior; Sean Payton kind of player... R7/** Jamari Lattimore, OLB, Middle Tennessee St 2010 SUN BELT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, despite being on a losing team; the guy never quit; most likely small college kid to make it big... |

We must draft Quinton Carter...teamed with Malcolm Jenkins...Oh schiottski...

carter would be nice, a beast in the making

East-West Shrine Game: 2011 NFL Draft Preparation Continues
East-West Shrine Game: 2011 NFL Draft Preparation Continues - SBNation.com |
As sweet as it would be to get a big-time RB or a great safety with our first round pick, the fact remains that the way you win football games is with a strong pass rush. This team's defensive ends were pretty much non-existent this season (Will Smith had 5.5 sacks, and faced a lot of double teams because Alex Brown did nothing). If this team can get a pass rushing threat to complement Will Smith, it will make our secondary look much better.
I do think we need to invest a second or third round pick in a running back. My list of priorities: DE, OLB, RB, S |
The way our oline got tooled, especially both our tackles, makes that need glaring. We shouldnt have to rely on a once in a generation back to create a running game. How about a line that can move a de out of the way? Or one that gives brees more than 2.5 seconds out of the gun.
|
We didn't run because we didn't have a Running Back; Ivory, Thomas were Rookie FA's behind this line...
We need a big RB to complement Reggie, Pierre/Ivory... |
