ESPN reporting Sean Payton Purchases Home in Dallas

1 Attachment(s)
Looks like Coach Payton will be commuting between New Orleans and Dallas next season. It's an arrangement coach Payton originally wanted but the New Orleans Saints organization would not let him.

The news of the home purchase probably mixed up previous rumors that Coach Payton was leaving the Saints for the Cowboys.

Quote:

While Sean Payton is not leaving the New Orleans Saints for a position with the Dallas Cowboys as rumored, a source close to Payton confirmed he is purchasing a home in the Dallas area and plans to commute between the two cities as the Saints' head coach for the first time.

"Sean Payton is the coach of the New Orleans Saints. He will not be going to the Dallas Cowboys in any capacity," the Saints said via a release.

Payton, wife Beth and their children will live in a home the family is purchasing in the exclusive Vaquero Club, an upscale golf community in Westlake that is home to numerous PGA Tour professionals as well as the Jonas Brothers.

The Paytons will enroll their children in school in their new Texas neighborhood. Payton became interested in Vaquero when he lived in nearby Southlake while working as an assistant coach under Bill Parcells with the Cowboys.

Payton estimates that flying on a private plane is 90 minutes door to door from his office at the Saints complex to the family's new home, which he believes allows him to remain committed to the Saints while moving his family to the area where he and Beth intend to eventually retire.

When Payton was offered the Saints head-coaching position originally, the family considered this exact setup but owner Tom Benson insisted on the entire Payton family living in New Orleans.

The Paytons spend several weeks during the offseason at a beach house in the Florida panhandle.

Okay... Sounds like a lot of work to me. Let's not kid ourselves - from a travel standpoint ; it's more than just a "90 minute door to door". What about weather issues and general airport issues?

Family first. Kids need a great school, neighborhood, friends...I get it.

Will New Orleans be his home during the season, at least??

At what expense does this time away mean?

Luda34 02-07-2011 03:27 PM

What's the problem alot of player and coaches do this is because it's Dallas. The guys not going anywhere I been in the westlake area it's really nice my only problem with this is will he be in New Orleans everyday when the season start I believe he will. The guys rich he can stay where ever he wants this is not a problem.

Halo 02-07-2011 03:33 PM

Yeah... we have to realize he won't be our coach forever. He's already 1 year away from the max time the previous coach was in NOLA, Haslett was here for 6 seasons, Payton already 5.

Great NFL coaches do about 7 to 9 years, some go a little longer (ie. Jeff Fisher) but it just doesn't last forever. Just the reality.

If he stayed another 2 years he would already have stayed longer than the majority of tenured coaches in the NFL.

Ashley 02-07-2011 03:37 PM

I don't care where he lives. Dallas TX, New York NY, Prague Czech Republic.
Just keep that man for know in the BLACK AND GOLD.

saintfan 02-07-2011 03:47 PM

So he takes a private Jet. It aint' leaving 'til he gets there. It's about 90 minutes in the air give or take, and not many weather-related delays during football season in the deep south, sans the occasional hurricane.

It can certainly be done. I wouldn't sweat this a'tall.

AsylumGuido 02-07-2011 03:52 PM

First, Payton is keeping his Northshore home, as well.

Second, the community near Dallas has it's own private airstrip. No delays.

Third, he'll probably have access to a private strip in New Orleans, as well.

Fourth, Drew Brees has maintained a home in San Diego and hasn't got this much grief.

I don't see what the problem is.

73Saint 02-07-2011 04:01 PM

Difference between this and the Brees situation is his family. The wife and kids will be living and going to school in Dallas. Obviously the Brees family isn't at the point where education comes into pl;ay, but at least Brees' family lives in NOLA. They just have a 2nd home in Cali.

Agreed.

Everyone knows that the Saints facility is down the street from the New Orleans International airport right?? --about 5 minutes

See here Google Maps

i wish he would be grooming a offensive guru under him. but thats unlikely going to happen as long as he's on the sideline. maybe its why GW is staying put. if payton wins another championship in BnG next season its probably his last here depending on how lil red is doing in dallas. again this is totally BS talk coming from me so nobody get choked up. lol

NOLA54 02-07-2011 04:55 PM

It makes me uncomfortable. It feels as if New Orleans is not a big enough market for any one of these guys to live in? Are the school systems not good enough either? Why is he already thinking about retirement? Are you kidding me? I do not trust Benson & now I do not trust Payton.

OldMaid 02-07-2011 06:13 PM

Hmmmmm, where to start.
Private plane, private airstrip, I understand that.
It is not as if he will be going through TSA, boarding, baggage, etc.
His car is an airplane. Private pilot is the chauf.

Many people, NFL coaches, players, have wife and schooled aged kids in a home based city, and they are in the team's season during the season. Even moreso if their wives are in their own profession. I get that.
Mrs.Payton . is a stay-at-home mom and has her charity work.
I get that he has a full, real, normal life like any of us with work and family ,friends too.

Place they want to live when they retire....Mrs. and Mrs. Sean P. are very young.

NFL coaches, head coaches and the coaching staff, don't stay around forever like in they did in the Tom Landry NFL years.
They all know of each other or know of each other having worked together at some point.
I get that too.

I don't get if he is planning on computing daily to Dallas-N.O.
I think that would be hard to do. His job hours don't sort of go, 9:00-5:00 with 1 hour lunch, no exceptions.

Whatever. Whatever works for him and his family. I hope before he and his coaching staff and team leave, and yeah that means Brees too, they have one more superseason.

It would make it far easier for N.O. Saints to rebuild.

I still say, hmmm.

foreverfan 02-07-2011 06:45 PM

Better Schools.
Less Crime.
New Homes.

I'd have a couple of houses if I earned a few million a year.

OldMaid 02-07-2011 07:03 PM

Schools everybody is saying , but schools don't matter when you are wealthy or even middle class.
I am sure Mr.s &Mrs. had their kids here in private school and will have them in private school there.
He did not live here and won't live there or anywhere around crime.
Now, he and wife had an awful mess in their home here(Northshore) with that Chinese dry wall. If I were them I would have moved out asap and had the thing sold as is or torn down.

Everybody has in the back of their minds, he is preparing to take on Dallas HC job in another year. Maybe he is and maybe he is not planning on there. I know the guy is leaving N.O.S. one day.
I wouldthink working for JerryJones would be a nightmare. S.P already worked for him, so maybe he can handle JJ and DC fans.
A team like DC is hard in that they have been winners of the big prize before and winners for a span of years and under different coaches and teams.
Teams like our Saints, easier and less pressure because the big prize was never won and winning seasons Pre-Payton consisted of 8-8, first round Playoffs, etc.
For this reason, I hope he and this team can win one more strong season if not the big prize.
It would make N.O.S. a more lucrative team for the best coaches to aim for and players too.

yeah no worries here.

C17-BING 02-07-2011 08:38 PM

You can't sell me on the fact that he wouldn't leave NOLA for Dallas FIRST THING if that job opens up again ... If Garrett stumbles in Dallas next year (and I say he will go 7-9) then Payton will be GONE from N.O. and onto Dallas ...

His wife obviously doesn't love NOLA ... And I don't know about you guys on the board, but WIVES ultimately decide A LOT of things in a marriage.

Just sayin'

lynwood 02-07-2011 09:38 PM

I wqouldn't have worried much if he classified it as a second home but he didn't. Commuting back and forth each way is fine for the offseason but when the season starts it just won't be practical. He needs to be where his office is located. Maybe he is still paying G.W. out of his own pocket?

jeanpierre 02-08-2011 12:14 AM

He does need to come out and address it in interview at the least...

breesfan27 02-08-2011 12:18 AM

As long as he's coaching the Saints next year, he can go live in BumF**kEgypt for all I care.

saintsfan1976 02-08-2011 07:05 AM

Although it's not uncommon for families of NFL coaches to live in other cities, if the Saints lose their first three games next year, this will be the FIRST thing everyone points to.

HA HA HA .. True '76 ... You can count me as the FIRST guy to bring it up! I think SP and Brees spent too much time last off season writing books, appearances, etc, etc, ... Neither one of them looked 100% this year ... So, in a way, here we go again ...

OldMaid 02-08-2011 10:02 PM

I agree with C-17 and lynwood.

i definitly would too foreverfan, but i'll tell you this i don't believe for a minute that payton will commute to the big D daily, i've worked for a mutimillionaire with jets and homes in different states, they don't go city hopping nightly after work. not because they don't want to its just to expensive to run that jet; even weekly. the cost is rediculous, i know payton makes big bucks but hes not a tom benson or jerry world jones. and renting or leasing is more if used alot. he'll be around

not a good thing.

I dont get it. You cant find a place you like on the Northshore, Metairie,
or the Garden District? Dallas is so sterile.

If I had a million bucks, I'd probably live in Thibodaux.

You should see the homes in Thibodaux that a million dollars could bring you...

Hell you could afford the taxes and the staff for upkeep at a third of the price...

But I can't imagine, in a happy marriage, living apart; either there's personal trouble which we should respect their space or something else is unfolding...

One of the reasons Saban almost didn't come to LSU and one of same reasons he left was his esposa...

And if Mrs Payton didn't like New Orleans than shame on leadership in Louisiana for not getting its act together...

And if Payton does end up coaching the Cowboys, this will be yet another example of why this Jerry Jones will be as bad for football as the Steinbrenners are for Baseball...

Thats what I'm saying... good grief, who wouldnt want to live somewhere near all that good fishing and Louisiana fun? I know there's some beautiful old houses in the area. I'm guessing she doesnt know how to run crawfish traps?

They could probably buy a plantation home, and charge us to come see them. You'd get history, and a peek at Sean Payton memorabilia. Book your wedding or corporate event at Sean Payton's house. c'mon, lets get creative. hahaha...

I actually liked living in Dallas a LOT, but it's a non-issue. Westlake is more Ft Worth than Dallas really. It's a beautiful area, somewhat exclusive, but not completely. I think it's an excellent place to live - it's convenient to DFW, Ft Worth Alliance, the Texas Motor Speedway, a great little town called Grapevine, and Denton, Tx.

Hopefully it's not convenient to Cowturd Stadium.

You don't want to live there...I hear they're having a revolution in BumF**kEgypt.

Most do...however, does everyone know that his new house is pretty close to the new stadium in Dallas?
