Looks like Coach Payton will be commuting between New Orleans and Dallas next season. It's an arrangement coach Payton originally wanted but the New Orleans Saints organization would not let him.

The news of the home purchase probably mixed up previous rumors that Coach Payton was leaving the Saints for the Cowboys.

While Sean Payton is not leaving the New Orleans Saints for a position with the Dallas Cowboys as rumored, a source close to Payton confirmed he is purchasing a home in the Dallas area and plans to commute between the two cities as the Saints' head coach for the first time.

"Sean Payton is the coach of the New Orleans Saints. He will not be going to the Dallas Cowboys in any capacity," the Saints said via a release.

Payton, wife Beth and their children will live in a home the family is purchasing in the exclusive Vaquero Club, an upscale golf community in Westlake that is home to numerous PGA Tour professionals as well as the Jonas Brothers.

The Paytons will enroll their children in school in their new Texas neighborhood. Payton became interested in Vaquero when he lived in nearby Southlake while working as an assistant coach under Bill Parcells with the Cowboys.

Payton estimates that flying on a private plane is 90 minutes door to door from his office at the Saints complex to the family's new home, which he believes allows him to remain committed to the Saints while moving his family to the area where he and Beth intend to eventually retire.

When Payton was offered the Saints head-coaching position originally, the family considered this exact setup but owner Tom Benson insisted on the entire Payton family living in New Orleans.

The Paytons spend several weeks during the offseason at a beach house in the Florida panhandle.

Okay... Sounds like a lot of work to me. Let's not kid ourselves - from a travel standpoint ; it's more than just a "90 minute door to door". What about weather issues and general airport issues?

Family first. Kids need a great school, neighborhood, friends...I get it.

Will New Orleans be his home during the season, at least??

At what expense does this time away mean?

What's the problem alot of player and coaches do this is because it's Dallas. The guys not going anywhere I been in the westlake area it's really nice my only problem with this is will he be in New Orleans everyday when the season start I believe he will. The guys rich he can stay where ever he wants this is not a problem.

Yeah... we have to realize he won't be our coach forever. He's already 1 year away from the max time the previous coach was in NOLA, Haslett was here for 6 seasons, Payton already 5.

Great NFL coaches do about 7 to 9 years, some go a little longer (ie. Jeff Fisher) but it just doesn't last forever. Just the reality.

If he stayed another 2 years he would already have stayed longer than the majority of tenured coaches in the NFL.

So he takes a private Jet. It aint' leaving 'til he gets there. It's about 90 minutes in the air give or take, and not many weather-related delays during football season in the deep south, sans the occasional hurricane.

It can certainly be done. I wouldn't sweat this a'tall.

First, Payton is keeping his Northshore home, as well.

Second, the community near Dallas has it's own private airstrip. No delays.

Third, he'll probably have access to a private strip in New Orleans, as well.

Fourth, Drew Brees has maintained a home in San Diego and hasn't got this much grief.

I don't see what the problem is.

Difference between this and the Brees situation is his family. The wife and kids will be living and going to school in Dallas. Obviously the Brees family isn't at the point where education comes into pl;ay, but at least Brees' family lives in NOLA. They just have a 2nd home in Cali.

i wish he would be grooming a offensive guru under him. but thats unlikely going to happen as long as he's on the sideline. maybe its why GW is staying put. if payton wins another championship in BnG next season its probably his last here depending on how lil red is doing in dallas. again this is totally BS talk coming from me so nobody get choked up. lol
