Tight end David Sloan, who was released in the final cut after training camp this summer, was signed to beef up a position hit by injuries. Ernie Caldwell was already on injured reserve, then Zachary Hilton injured his left knee in last week's game.

"We thought that we needed to bring three tight ends into the game," Haslett said. "Dave knows the offense. If it weren't for Zach, then Dave would have been here. We decided to keep the young guy around as our fourth."

The Saints released Henry Ford to make room on the roster for Sloan.

I think its the best move they could make, considering he knows the O very well.
He should be healthy!

Well Boo has taken firm hold of the #1 spot so that takes alot of pressure off. I sure hope he holds on to the ball a lot better this time around for us. He\'ll know if he wants to play anywhere next year he\'ll need to make the most of this chance. So he should be focused and motivated, nothing like desperation and fear of obsolescence to get someones attention.

You know, everyone had high expectations for Sloan this year, after his worst season as a pro. He came into camp determined to revert back to his pro-bowl type play.

He never got the chance to show us anything because of his training camp injury.

Best Case: He stays healthy and plays like the TE everyone expected.
Worst Case: He gets nicked up and continues dropping passes.

His upside greatly outweighs his downside. And I\'m sure we got him cheap.

Has the resigning of David Sloan and the steady play of Boo Williams already made fans forget Ernie (Caldwell) Conwell? Let\'s all wish Ernie a healthy recovery and return to the team. Sloan got caught up in a numbers game here more than anything because of the upside talent of Zach Hilton. We haven\'t seen much of Hilton other than preseason as he has been inactive most of the year and not in on any plays in the games he was active for until last week when he hurt his knee playing on special teams. He may be out for a few weeks. I sure would like to see the Saints use him when in the redzone. At 6\'8\" tall I can\'t see how a 5\'10\" corner could out jump him on a toss up throw in the endzone on short yardage situations. Boo Williams has given the team a sure handed tight end with enough speed to be a mismatch with LBs. If Joe Horn could just get that knee healthy and if ANYNODY could pose a threat on the other side by just making a few plays, our offense would see a bigger effect of the emergence of Boo.

As for Sloan, he should be able to fit right in. He has a lot to prove. He has been there and done that, but not here and not lately. As a former starter and former probowler, he knows he can perform well and hopefully he will. He has the ability to help this team out down the stretch. The team had to release DT Henry Ford to make room for Sloan. Ford was a dissapointment as he missed all of the preseason and some of the regular with ankle problems and was a less than average backup playing behind all of the young guys.
