Defensive Tackle, Check. Running Back signed, check

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; CBA done or not you gotta give Mickey Loomis lots of credit this offseason. He has been pulling deals out of his ass to keep this team relavant. He'll still need a few more but I gotta give him kudos ...

CBA done or not you gotta give Mickey Loomis lots of credit this offseason. He has been pulling deals out of his ass to keep this team relavant. He'll still need a few more but I gotta give him kudos for this great start. Rodgers took two mill less to play here. Last season Pierre wanted a Kings ransom now he signs for something like a third of that Loomis is as important now to this franchise as Peyton and Brees, Time we start recognizing him for his efforts.

I completely agree, especially concerning Pierre. Pierre was going off the a solid Super Bowl season, but not spectacular stats of a #1 guy when he wanted so much money on a new contract. The Saints were like "O.K. We're going to sign you to this one-year deal and see if you can do it again. If so, then we'll consider it. If not, then we don't look like a bunch of morons." Even without the injury bug biting him, his numbers weren't looking very comparable to '09. This made Loomis look like a genius, and Pierre look a little silly for asking for so much. Now they have him locked under contract for a very reasonable amount of money and gives Pierre a little stability of knowing where his future lies for the next few seasons. No more one-year tenders, etc. He realized quickly that he wasn't Superman, so he had to take what he could get.

The Rogers deal is another smooth move. He takes 2 mil less to play in New Orleans? Kind of a no-brainer since the guy has never played with a winner, but he could have easily blown us off to go play with the Foreskins for more money and a franchise that is going nowhere fast. Loomis is a very slick GM and he knows how to find good players at the right value.

People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.

Well I have to say that the Roger's signing was a bit of a surprise...

Who else would you like to see the Saints geaux after?

I'd like to see us trade a receiver for a linebacker; but one receiver I find intriguing in free agency is Kevin Curtis...

Call him a penny pincher or whatever you want but he's making good decisions mainly because he's using sound reasoning based off production which is what he should be doing. We all love PT and Shockey but emotions aside, they should be exactly where they are right now when you go off of what they have done on the field. It's going to be interesting to see what he does with Bush.

Still need another DT, although I think Hargrove will bounce back this year.

Still need another DE - speedy, edge-rusher please!! (heard this before?)

Still need another RB. Did we learn anything from injuries last year???

Lock up Lance Moore. Period.

Still need another OLB. I'd prefer we bring in a vet like Vilma.

I couldn't have said it better myself 76! I would really like to take a look at Gholston for that DE spot.

"like" but don't "love" gholston and only bc I read that one team offered him the "league minimum" - OUCH!! Hey, maybe that's motivation enough?? Maybe not - check this out:
Former first-round draft pick Vernon Gholston was cut by the New York Jets this week after three years of not living up to his potential.
How big a bust has Gholston been? Well, Adam Schefter reminded everyone today that Gholston had a clause built into his contract (before the 2010 season) that would award him a $9 million bonus if he simply recorded one sack. Or caused a fumble. Or a recovered a fumble. Or caught an interception.
In 45 NFL games, he did none of those things. Zero. They even moved him from linebacker to defensive end and tried to devise schemes specifically to help him out. Nothing.
He did get a sack in a 2009 preseason game, which prompted coach Rex Ryan to say, ''It was the first of many." Unfortunately, the best he could do was 16 total tackles in three seasons.

Sad...

But there's too many good defenders in rds 1 and 2 of the draft this year. IF Payton doesn't get too cute w his draft we could net two starters.
