Tyrod Taylor to visit Saints

Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor is scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation.

Taylor is also slated to conduct a private workout for the New Orleans Saints on March 28 and the Miami Dolphins on March 30.

Taylor had breakfast with the San Diego Chargers before his Pro Day workout earlier this week and had an afternoon meeting with the Dolphins.

He's regarded as a third to fifth-round draft target for NFL teams and is being evaluated as a quarterback. Taylor does offer positional versatility, but is expected to play quarterback primarily.

"It's hard to pass on a guy's athleticism like that," a source said. "People are excited about him."

Taylor had an accurate throwing session at the NFL scouting combine, and the 6-foot-1, 217-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds and posted a 37 1/2 inch vertical leap, 10-06 broad jump and a 6.78 three-cone drill.

Named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Taylor owns the Hokies' records for total offense, passing yards, rushing yards and touchdowns for a quarterback , touchdown passes in a season and career wins.

Last season, he passed for 24 touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 172 of 284 passes.

He draws high marks from speed and elusiveness, rushing for 637 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Some draft analysts have knocked him for his throwing motion, but his accuracy has been sound.

Two seasons ago, Taylor completed 136 of 243 throws for 2,311 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptons with 370 rushing yards.

I think we need to wait and draft Austin Davis out of the University of Southern Mississippi. This should be Drews slab of clay on the turning wheel.

I have know problem with Saints spending a 4th or 5th round pick on Taylor as long as we don't use him like Philadephia used Vick before last year bringing him in to run stupid draw plays and trick plays. If we got him the only time I want to see him is if Drew is hurt or we up by a big margin.

He would be a good QB that we could develop over time, from the film what I like is that he looks to be a patient guy, with good pocket presence, he doesnt look to run first (like Vick did in ATL) he sticks to the play, I wouldn't mind us takin the guy in like 4th/ 5th round

I go to Tech and have watched him live. He misses a lot of wide open receivers. I don't think he can make it as a qb in the NFL. Hope I'm wrong, but doubt it

No way the Saints waste a pick on Tyrod. I would rather have his teammate, Williams, come for a visit.

Payton and his toys. Is he a qb? Is the a receiver? Is he a wildcat QB? Is he going to run an end around and throw a touchdown to Devery downfield? At the very least, he's a good athlete and could create a lot of deception on the field of play... which makes him quite interesting. As a late round investment, we could do a lot worse.

I view him as an attractive temporary replacement for Drew if he were to get injured.

QB's like Brees don't grow on trees and if he were to miss a few or several games a guy Taylor can make things happen with his feet is perfect.

No one is gonna step in off the bench and play like a Drew Brees, so a guy like Taylor poses problems for teams not prepared for him.
