New Orleans Saints receiver Robert Meachem had ankle surgery, expects to be healthy for training camp
By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune
New Orleans Saints receiver Robert Meachem told The Sporting News that he had ankle surgery this offseason, but he said he expects to be healthy in time for training camp -- assuming there is a training camp. Meachem said the ankle bothered him for "pretty much" the entire 2011 season. He was also recovering from 2010 toe surgery last year. That could explain why the former first-round draft pick wasn't able to build on his breakout 2009 performance. Meachem's numbers were more solid than spectacular last year -- 44 catches, 638 yards, five touchdowns. If Meachem can return to full health, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound speedster still has the potential to become a dynamic, No. 1-caliber receiver for the Saints.
