New Orleans Saints receiver Robert Meachem told The Sporting News that he had ankle surgery this offseason, but he said he expects to be healthy in time for training camp -- assuming there is a training camp. Meachem said the ankle bothered him for "pretty much" the entire 2011 season. He was also recovering from 2010 toe surgery last year. That could explain why the former first-round draft pick wasn't able to build on his breakout 2009 performance. Meachem's numbers were more solid than spectacular last year -- 44 catches, 638 yards, five touchdowns. If Meachem can return to full health, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound speedster still has the potential to become a dynamic, No. 1-caliber receiver for the Saints. Well, since training camp will only start in July if hell freezes over, I suspect he could have open heart surgery and be ready for training camp....in 2012, which is probably when it'll happen. Just sayin...

That kinda explains why he was less of a threat last season. Hope he gets really healthy. I still see great things for him.

With Payton being so tight lipped about injuries no one including the fans know what to expect. I have high hopes for AA again.........he needs to stay healthy and if he does he and Meachem will shine next to Colston and Moore.

At the end of the day, we need decent/good running game so that the safeties won't be able to sit back there and stop the long ball cuz they need more guys in the box. Strong running game opens up meachem and Henderson for the long ball, it's that simple. |
