Q&A with New Orleans Saints receiver Robert Meachem
For the 2009 New Orleans Saints, the 2010 offseason was a series of parades and parties - the perks earned by a team that recorded a 13-3 regular season and conquered the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl.
New Orleans' bid to repeat fell flat. At the end of an 11-5 regular season, the 2010 Saints were stunned 41-36 in a wild-card playoff setback at Seattle. For the Saints and their fans, it was a painful way to end the season. For Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem, it was the painful end of a painful season. The Tulsa native and former Booker T. Washington High School star played the entire season on an injured left ankle. He recently underwent surgery and, in spite of the uncertainty resulting from the ongoing NFL lockout, continues to rehab and train in New Orleans. Meachem took a break on Monday, returning to Tulsa for an appearance at the Rudisill Regional Library. He spoke to students about the "READ 60" program, which is supported by Meachem's Follow Your Dreams Foundation. Students who meet certain reading requirements get to attend a Meachem-hosted football camp this summer. Following his "READ 60" presentation, Meachem talked football with the Tulsa World: Are you confident that the labor issues will be resolved and that there will be a 2011 NFL season? It will get settled. There's too much money involved. The players - we want to play. But we don't want to play more games.
