What is it about liberals that makes them think they are "intitled" to someone elses money? Why is the rich guy the bad guy? But wait! every Professional football player in the NFL is rich! So it's Greed! This is America! The greatest country ever! Whats wrong with the way we are? Why do we need Change!? Why must we fall this country to a socialist country? Unions are deliberately causing the crash of the American financial systems this year! You will all look back and wonder what the #@@$%$% just happened! Buy gold and groceries! all I can say.

Unions are a natural function of a free market economy. People have the right to freely associate; to not have unions would be detrimental in a lot of regards. The owners do not have to pay the players, but the players believe they are entitled to a bigger cut so they will continue to put forward with that idea. Trade is a two way street; the players don't have to play for the owners if they aren't getting the financial compensation that they believe the deserve. The Owners don't have to pay the players; nobody is putting a gun to their heading telling them to pay. The only problem that is contradictory to free exchange is the protections that are given to unions(also the lawsuits and stuff is rather dumb and ignorant; though I doubt they amount to anything anyway).

The players have a rare commodity that they can market as they see fit. I hear all the time that "the players are the players and the owners are the bosses"... so for some reason this is usually supposed to mean that the players are at fault or something because they don't own the teams. This is ridiculous. Thats kind of like someone telling you that you are morally obligated to keep a job because the bosses are the bosses and even though you aren't getting paid what you think that you deserve you should continue to work. In actuality its the players that are saying that they getting what they think they deserve so they are walking; both sides representatives get together and negotiate terms. The players have bargaining leverage because they are a rare commodity. If they were replaced with lesser players, then the income of the league would drop. Besides the protections of the unions(which wouldn't impact the NFLPA too much because because of the rarity of the commodity that they offer), it has nothing to do with socialism v.s. capitalism.... it's just two sides trying to negotiate.

Easy to see where your beliefs lie... I'm buying gold and groceries! Don't ask for any.
