Illinois LB is the the Saints third selection of the 2011 NFL Draft
The Saints selected Illinois LB Martez Wilson with the 72nd selection of the 2011 NFL Draft Friday night. One of the most coveted defenders in the country coming out of high school, the 2010 season saw Wilson live up to those lofty expectations. He earned All-Big Ten Conference first-team honors in 2010, a season that catapulted him among the top inside linebacker prospects eligible for the 2011 NFL Draft. Full article below. Saints Select LB Martez Wilson in the Third Round Okay, so what do you draft-niks know about this fellow? |
I like the pick! it is defiantly an upgrade!
|
ESPN's talking heads say he can play any LB position. I can already see GW grinning evilly and designing new schemes.
|
I was hoping we'd grab a kicker
|
Fastest LB at the combine!!!! 4.49

Hartley is good, Yes he missed 3 kicks any Kicker should make 100% of the time. I know if he would have a made that kick against the falcons, everything might have been different. But overall I think he is a solid kicker, plus with carney on the sidelines coaching him up. He could turn into the next great kicker.

We are just killing it these past two days. Martez right here in the third is a hell of a lot of value. He has the size, strength, speed, and athleticism to be an impact player. After the combine he was mocked in multiple drafts to us at 24.

well he is fast. i like the pick, just because we are staying on the d side of the ball.

Martez Wilson is one of the few guys in the 2011 NFL Draft that I can call an athletic freak. His wing span is out of this world, his frame superb, and has a ton of speed to burn. His measureables are off the charts. I’m excited to see how he works out at the NFL Scouting Combine and Illinois Pro-Day. He has a unique skill set that many teams will covet come April. It’s rare for an Inside Linebacker to possess 4.5 speed, and also be able to stuff the run, and rush the passer. Wilson has a ton of upside. 3-4 teams will look to solicit his services on the outside, as an SOLB. He can be highly productive there because of his experience in coverage, quickness in change of direction and long arms. He would need to get stronger though. That positions requires a lot of stacking and shedding of Right Tackles and Tight Ends. Most draft analyst have him slated for the second round, but I think he will excel in every combine drill, and make his way into the first round. Players with his speed and versatility don’t last until the second round.

Great pick! I was sure he'd be gone early in the second. I'm not sure about this corner back. I was hoping to draft Marcus Canon there.
|
Mike Detillier says he reminds him of Mark Fields. :whatever:

Sounds like they picked a big and fast linebacker, who also can rush the passer and play coverage...I'm happy!

Awwwwww! Did you someone get their feelings hurt for someone else disagreeing with them? Want a band-aid to make it better? A popsicle? A fifth of Jack? Ohhhhhh, wait. That's what got you mad in the first place. Some people just can't handle their liquor. |
