Maybe everything get\'s magnified when a team is losing but it sure seems like the Saints are leading the league in injuries this year. I know when training camp starts i say a little prayer that we will have no injuries.

I was hopeful that the new indoor practice facility would help eliminate the injuries, but that didn\'t seem to help. (I think some of the injuries can be attributed to the age of some of the players and some to just bad luck. Then there is Stallworth that saw the stretching specialist in the offseason. I think he needs to stay away from that dude. Maybe an acupuncturist would do wonders -- :P

It makes me wonder how a guy like Bruce Smith can play at the age of 40 and some guys can\'t last 3 years.

Saints\' Bentley out for rest of season

Thursday December 11, 2003

An injury to LeCharles Bentley\'s left knee is expected to sideline the Saints\' right guard for the rest of the season, Coach Jim Haslett said Wednesday.

An MRI test on Bentley\'s knee Monday revealed a slight tear to the anterior cruciate ligament that could require surgery, Haslett said.

Team officials and Bentley are expected to decide today if surgery is needed. It could be performed as early as Friday.

Either way, Haslett said Bentley has played his last game of the season. The club is expected to place him on the injured reserve list before the weekend.

Bentley wanted to play the final three games, but club officials didn\'t want to risk further damage to the promising second-year lineman.

Bentley has started all 13 games this season despite being hampered by injuries to his knee and left shoulder. Coaches said Bentley\'s performance did not suffer until last week\'s 14-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he went down in the second quarter and struggled after returning to the lineup.

\"For the most part, I think he\'s played winning football,\" offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy said. \"Clearly in the second half of this game, that\'s the worst I\'ve seen him as far as being injured. He couldn\'t put his left foot in the ground. That was very evident.\"

Veteran Spencer Folau will replace Bentley at right guard Sunday night against the New York Giants. Rookie Montrae Holland is expected to start for the fourth consecutive game at left guard in place of injured starter Kendyl Jacox. Jacox said Wednesday he could return to practice today or Friday.

\"This is probably one of the most flexible groups that I\'ve been around,\" McCarthy said. \"We\'ll see where Kendyl is at the end of the week. Then we\'ll go whatever way we need to go.\"

We are billy.
I checked about 2 weeks ago and New England has had 40 different starters this year, the Saints 45.
Bill Belichick is a coaching freak of nature.
Along that same line, Kansas City has not lost one starter due to injury this year.
What are we doing wrong?

did he really? I know he was saying that he was going there, but last I heard he cancelled the visit. The specialist was based in Toronto, and he was too scared to come up here because of SARS.

Danno,

I think most of it really is bad luck. I mean Mel Mitchell get\'s hurt by the QB falling on his leg in a preseason game. It was also reported that training camp was of the lighter variety this year. I really can\'t see how any of the injuries could have been avoided. I think you just hope for an injury free year. Sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesn\'t. Maybe next year will be our year.

Years ago I saw a program about the way the 49\'ers conducted training camp under Bill Walsh. They basically did everything in shorts. Never really any hitting. They focused on the timing and mental aspect of the game. They never seeemed to get any injuries to speak of. The players always seemed fresh at the end of the year also. I alway thought this was the best approach. I really don\'t see the need for a team to be beating up on each other in training camp. I do think a little full contact is needed before the first game though.

Today\'s athletes seem to get many more pulled muscles and have more ligament damage than the atletes of yesteryear. I think a lot of this has to do with how much muscle mass they have. They put a lot of strain on their body and there is no way to build up a ligament. The more power you have and the more speed you have has got to be more grueling on the body.

That\'s my $0.02
