Per Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline the most overrated and underrated Saints players:

New Orleans Saints

Overrated: RT Jon Stinchcomb. He's a decent player, but he gets Pro Bowl votes every year. That I don't see.

Underrated: S Malcolm Jenkins. He became a full-time starter last season and made Saints fans forget about Darren Sharper. A former corner, he has the range needed to play in this era of wide-open football.

Overrated - Scott Shanle

Underrated - Malcolm Jenkins, David Thomas

The obvious overrated answer is Reggie Bush, but that's too easy. I don't see what everyone else sees in Jo-Lonn Dunbar.

Underrated: Marvin Mitchell. I wasn't a fan, but he seemed to play really well last year.

Overrated- Dang...wish the Shockster was still around! :) Gonna agree with Prissy on this one...Stinky gets my vote. Not trying to put him down but I couldn't think of anyone else more worthy...on the current roster.

Underrated- My gut tells me to go with Lance Moore. I think if he and Welker would have swapped teams for the last 5 years or so...Moore would be a superstar and nobody would know who Welker was.

I got confirmation of 1 of 2 possible things. Believe it or not...I had to google to come up with Moore's name. Now...the 1st possibility is simply because of the topic of this thread...he is underrated so much that his name doesn't just pop into my head.

The 2nd possibility is that I am an old fart and should not start my day doing certain things...:)

(You see...Mike...it is OK for me to call myself names...:) )

Overrated - There's Bush, and then there's everyone else. No one else is even close.

Stinchcomb (Over-rated by the media, under-rated by Saints fans)
Ivory (awesome talent, but too frequently hurt)


UnderratedCarl Nicks (he's our BEST O-lineman and has been for a year)
Pierre Thomas (our best RB for several years now)

Depends on your definition of over-rated.

Listening to Saints fans you swear the dude was Earl Campbell, Adrian Peterson and Bo Jackson all rolled into one.

OK, how about this...

Underrated by the media, overrated by many Saints fans.

Many have said he was our best RB, when healthy. That can not be denied.
I've said it myself quite a few times.

i also think there maybe a little too much hype about martez wilson. i hope im wrong. just my gut feeling.

stinch is one of the best right tackles in the entire league. saying hes overrated is a complete joke

galette is the definition of an overrated player. hasnt shown a thing but continues to get enormous amounts of praise from fans

underrated has got to be stinch this offseason but aside from the ridiculous accusations of his decline, id say that carl nicks is the most underrated saint followed closely by david thomas. nicks is the best guard in the league IMO and david thomas has been our best and most consistant TE

not only that but he had the versatility to play fullback when we needed him to as well

Underrated - Carl Nicks (With Jahri Evans slacking, he is the best OL, in the League); Malcolm Jenkins (though I'd wanted to draft Matthews, this guy is really getting ready to launch to the next level)

Underappreciated - Scott Shanle (Watch the Film, Gumbys)

Misunderstood - Reginald Alfred "Reggie" Bush II (With all the bashing, expectations have come back down to Planet Houston, Return of the Jedi Time)

Overpaid - Nah, Not Gonna Geaux There

If Shanle is so over-rated like a lot of Saints fans like to say, why hasn't ANYONE taken the starting position from him?

cause thats how sad or LB corp is...

than call me a funny guy. last year he was terrible. he was outplayed by bushrod. he was consistently getting beat every game. he had about 3-4 good seasons and started declining last year. hopefully for the sake of the team he is better this year, but if you think he had a good season last year you might be blind.

I agree with most everything you said. Shanle is no worldbeater but better than what folks believe. I really hope Stinch gets back to form this year or he might get pushed aside by Charlie Brown.

We still need an upgrade over shanle though, hopefully casillas takes his spot and martez Wilson gets the other starting spot.
Shanle is very average, however all i can remember is him getting torched so much in the super bowl that roman harper had to cover Dallas Clark eventually.

How is Bushrod overrated? Nearly everyone thinks he's the weak link among the O-line and probably our worst starter on offense.

Is it because he's even worse than sucks?

I'd love for you to teach me one thing about linemen that I dont already know. I make a point to watch them every game and I talk about them more than anyone else for a reason. Telling me that he stunk is like sayin Bigfoot exists cuz you have absolutely no proof to backup your ridiculous claims. In fact most of the accusations against him are based on a misguided notion that the entire line regressed but if you actually do the math you'll see the line did just as well as the previous seasons. I'm afraid ppl are too cautious to place the blame on the ppl that are really at fault.... Drew and Payton

Overrated: Stinchcomb, Mount Cody (not a Saint, but way overrated)
Underrated: Colston. This cat has never made a Pro Bowl? Ridiculous. He's never mentioned with the elite in the NFL even though he should be. The reason? He's a humble young man who bring his lunch pail everyday and doesn't draw attention to himself like people expect from big-time WRs. Not that they have a clue, but ESPN ranks him as the 13th best receiver in the game... behind Roddy White? Steve Smith? Please.

As much as I love Reggie, I will agree he is overrated. Definitely not worth what we pay him.

I'll also agree Malcolm Jenkins and Lance Moore are two of the most underrated players on our roster. Both have been standouts at their positions and their stocks are rising.

i think what you dont know is recordable stats. i cant find the end of season stats that i had at the end of last year where stinch had the most allowed sack and most penalties. all i can find is mid season stats that show him still leading in penalties and sacks allowed. i admit he was playing good but as i said before this last season he was at the bottom of the list on OUR O line. league wise...he prob is an above average player. on our team the stats show him not as good as the others.

Yes...o-line coach, GM, president of the US...whatever he wants to be. Please keep him happy. I think he's been gone for awhile. Let's keep him back...or more importantly...keep him from getting mad and changing his avatar back to you know what.

Carl Nicks, guard: Nicks might be the best guard in football, or he might be the second-best guard on his team behind Jahri Evans. That is debatable, but what is not debatable is that Nicks does not get his due in the public eye. His movement skills for his size (318 pounds) are amazing. He is quick to recover when beaten, can pull and trap and is a good blocker in space hitting a smaller target. Nicks is a very good pass-blocker, but he is just an animal in the run game. If the Saints need a tough yard, they should run behind Nicks, even more so than Evans.

strato, u hit it. charles brown must step up or we'll be going o-line with the second pick in 2012.

I agree that Stinch had a down year. If you look at his stats from previous years, last year was a nightmare for him. Maybe the injury (detached quad) and the movement of another official in the backfield had something to do with last year. Penalties were up across the line. Hopefully stinch will come back 100% and have a good year. He is the leader of this line.

Most Overrated: Stinchcomb, Bushrod, Shanle, Harper.

Most Underrated: Dave Thomas, Patrick Peterson, Sedrick Ellis
