As we wait impatiently for football to kick in for 2011, it is time to take a preliminary look at the New Orleans Saints.
Assuming owners and players will find enough common ground to have a 2011 season, the Saints figure prominently in the discussion to win the NFC and reach the Super Bowl. After winning the Super Bowl to cap the 2009 season, the Saints endured injuries and struggled through a typical post-Super Bowl syndrome as their quest to repeat ended on a cool day in Seattle against a subpar Seahawks team which sported a losing record. I hadn't realized Porter and Greer missed 17 games over the last two seasons.
Thats kinda concerning. |

When healthy, I think they're easily one of the best tandems in the NFL. Luckily for us, our front office does a great job drafting that which net us Jenkins and Robinson in back to back drafts. Though puzzling at the time, they know what they're doing up there. Get a quality backup safety and I feel we have one of the best... and deepest secondaries in the league.

That explains the attention to the CB position over the last year. The Saints barely made it through their Superbowl season with all the bandages used throughout the 2009 season.

Health is going to be a big concern this season. We made it through the end of the '09 season, and playoffs, by getting healthy at just the right time.
Green Bay won Super Bowl XLV with a lot of injuriers, including RB Ryan Grant and TE Jermichael Finley. And don't forget, Aaron Rodgers had at least one concussion last season. It can be done, but I would rather have a healthy roster, especially come playoff time. |
