This is a really big year for four linebackers on the New Orleans Saints. I feel like Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Jonathan Casillas, Marvin Mitchell and Stanley Arnoux are all four at crossroads of their careers. Will they break through and become starters, or will their football careers dwindle to nothing?

That's the struggle a lot of 3rd and 4th year players face - about the time when the average NFL career ends. Eventually the team adds new young linebackers (like Martez Wilson and Nate Bussey) and your role on special teams and as a backup gets usurped by a younger player. At this point these guys need to answer this question - are they ready to be starters, or are their careers essentially over?

I think Marvin Mitchell may be pretty safe, as the backup MLB to Vilma. Martez Wilson can also play MLB, but the team has already said they want to make him a SAM. Casillas is safe as long as he remains healthy (he is going to be the WLB). Dunbar and Arnoux are on the bubble; Dunbar because of a lack of speed, and Arnoux because he has been injured each of his first two seasons. If Arnoux can remain healthy, it could put additional pressure on Marvin Mitchell as the backup to Vilma; Arnoux could also play that role.

Cassillas will probably be penciled in as a starter for camp. Arnoux looked good at camp and was fan friendly. Too bad he went down I was pulling for him. If these guys play and play well on each side of Vilma we could be looking at a much improved linebacking core. Let Martez learn and come in on packages while he learns the positions and can rotate in. We should be alright. All I know is it's going to be a good camp battle to watch.
