As labor talks continue in the saga of the 2011 NFL Lockout, there is new optimism that both sides are coming closer and closer to striking a deal. If a deal can be made before the end of July, then training camps can possibly start on time. With a new deal, the New Orleans Saints face a number of important free agency decisions.
No-one really knows just how things will go when the lockout ends. Rumors are circulating that free agency will be rapid fire once business resumes. Reports have circulated of a possible 48-72 hour window for teams to negotiate with their own free agents before they are allowed to speak with other teams. If that's the case, Saints have a lot of work to do because a number of players are going to fall into the free agency pool for the black and gold. Some are going to be a major priority though and some will fall to the back burner, but there's also big decisions to be made. Below is a list of the Saints that are currently free agents according to the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement. That means players with four or more years of experience are unrestricted free agents and those with three years of experience are restricted free agents. That could change as well once a new CBA is agreed upon. Six years or more experience:
