Of all the free agent acquisitions, Tebucky Jones has received the most criticism. That seems to happen when a player signs a BIG contract. Maybe Tebucky hasn't played up to his contract, although I don't know how you can measure that. It's quite possible Tebucky could have made a bigger impact, had he have gone to another team. I think the way he is being used with the Saints is not allowing him to put up big numbers. His primary responsibility has been to drop deep in coverage and prevent the big pass plays. He has done an excellent job of that.
On the year, here are Tebucky's stats: Total Tackles/ Assists/ Sacks/ Fum /Rec 59/ 42.0 /17 /0/ 0 Tebucky is 4th on the team in total tackles and solo tackles. I think it's quite possible that the player who has received the most criticism has possibly had the biggest impact on the whole team this year. Our pass defense is giving up 115-less yards per game, in the passing game this year. That ain't bad. This year was Tebucky Jones first year with the Saints. I'm looking foward to Tebucky doing great things in the future and I think he will. [Edited on 19/12/2003 by BillyC] |

I think once we get some more players on defense that Tebucky will be used a little different and he will be in a better postion to put up the kind of numbers that we all expect. [Edited on 19/12/2003 by BillyC] [Edited on 19/12/2003 by BillyC] |

Ahhh, ok.
I don\'t know, I guess with all the offseason hype on this guy, I was expecting him to be putting some big licks on some people and flying all over the field. Last week was the first time I saw him put a big time hit on anyone. It\'s hard to judge his performance for me, because I\'m stuck watching the game on the TV, and because of camera angles, do not have the ability to study any one particular position, especially safeties, because unless they are blitzing or making a tackle in the secondary, or even getting burned, for that matter, the camera is never really focused back there. |
The waiting drove me mad....

Also a little continuity will help.
Same Staff. Same Players (for the most part). Same System. It will be nice to go into training camp with everyone on the same page. Bringing a few new players in to learn our system isn\'t nearly as daunting as a complete over-haul like we had last year. We can fine-tune and tweak instead of frantic teaching. |

One thing that worries me about him is he doesn\'t seem capable of catching a ball. Great safeties can usually be counted on for a few interceptions a year, but I heard during the radio broadcast of one of the games earlier this year that Tebucky can\'t catch even in practice. Unless he can improve that, I don\'t think he\'ll ever be a top-quality safety. Hopefully it\'s something he can improve during the off-season.

This is a big joke. This guy is not worth the hype. yes, he has speed. yes, he has the size. NO, ABOVE AVERAGE SAFETY. How can you give this guy the credit for team not attempting the long pass (give me a break). The guy can\'t cover his on bed yet in still he can\'t even tackle. I am sick and tired of the lame excuses he didn\'t wrap up cuz he was trying to knock the guy out. T buck you need tackle with your eyes open and not close

Much of the samethings that are being said about Tebucky this year was being said about Jay Bellamy last year. We all know what Bellamy has done this year. Also there is a reason that our pass defense is giving up 115 less yards this year. I see you gave Tebucky NO credit for that, but provided no reason of your own for that. It has been said that the reason our pass defense is ranked 8th is because teams are running the ball more this year and not passig as much. That simply is not true. I have already provided the stats from last year and this year. I don\'t care to do that again. You can find those stats in this thread. If teams aren\'t running the ball more on us this year, then something else must be the reason why our pass defense is GREATLY improved. Could it be Tebucky that has made that difference? I think so. At least I think he deserves much of that credit. |

You made a nice arguement but simply use your great wiz that you have on finding stats and show me Tebucky\'s stats and ...PLEASE!!!! show me how he help the secondary. Seriously I would love to have the beliefs that you have on Tebucky but I can\'t help to believe this guy is a BUST. When I say stats I mean pass defended, interceptions and tackles. (THIS GUY STIFFED ARMED BY A 180LB RB) ...Hmm..could you see Sammy Knight or even Bellamy get abused like that? I think not.

ami2kind4words -- Let me just say that Tebucky has not lived up to all the hype and hasn\'t lived up to the his BIG contract that makes him one of the highest paid safties in the league. I think everyone is in agreement with that. I myself expected Tebucky to come in here and have a pro-bowl year. But, just because Tebucky hans\'t put up the kind of numbers that one would expect does not mean that Tebucky is a bust. In fact, if you look at how Tebucky is being used and what Rick Venturi said he wanted to do at the beginning of the year, then I think it tells exactly how effective Tebucky has been. I used stats to PROVE that teams are not running on us more this year and passing less. I also used stats to show how many tackles and interceptions Tebucky has. That\'s the only thing I can do to KNOW the facts, because if I just took everyone\'s word I would not know the FACTS. Well, not all the time anyway. And YES, Bellamy had a problem tackling last year. But, he looks very good this year. [Edited on 20/12/2003 by BillyC] |
