Cold weather games
Looks like the Saints caught a break with the scheduling committee.
The Saints only outdoor games when the weather/temperature could be a factor are 10/2 @ Tennessee & 12/11 @ Carolina. Other games against teams from cold weather areas are back-to-back home games against the Giants & Detroit and then are indoors against the Viqueens a week after the Tennessee game. The Saints don't seem to play too badly in outdoor cold weather games that I can re-call. I remember a road game against Buffalo that snowed heavily and I believe it was Dalton Hilliard running all the over the Bills. |

The likely hood of the Saints playing any regular season cold weather games is close to zero percent. The only late season road game that is somewhat questionable is the Titans game in week 14, but I wouldn't be too concerned since that falls on December 11th, and is a 12 noon game.

That game was one of Payton's most disasterous play calling games to date.
11 rushes...2 by Drew Brees...7 total by Duece who broke his first one for 12 and didn't get the ball again until mid 2nd quarter...IN THE ICE AND SNOW. I was livid! The Superbowl kind of made it all better. There "shouldn't" be a problem handing the ball off this year. |

Ever since that Chicago game, people seem to have kinda developed a chicken little complex over the cold weather games. The Soldier Field game it was the FIELD that was a factor more than the actual weather. The turf just got worse and worse as the day went on. Sloppy.
I believe in the theory that something happened to Deuce during that Chicago game. I can distinctly remember he was sorta limping in between plays. He just didn't look "right" to me when the cameras would show him walking, or standing there before they'd get in the huddle. He didn't look like his normal self. I think he tweaked or popped something early in that game, or maybe he was just really beat up from the Eagles the week before; and Payton probably knew it but nobody else did, it wasn't publicly admitted and they never really talked about it. And so Payton went pass happy and the wheels fell off. But I distinctly remember thinking to myself, that something about Deuce did not look right that day. I think he might have tweaked an ankle or something on the CRUMMY FIELD, got dinged up, and it was all downhill from there. But being Deuce, he's a class act and he's not gonna go out there in an interview after the game and say "Awww, I got hurt" as an excuse for losing. He's not a crybaby. But that's my own theory on what I think might have happened up there in Chicago, it wasn't the weather, it was the FIELD. And then late in the game Chicago was passing the ball all over the place, because their receivers knew when they were going to cut in the slippery muck, and our defenders didn't. Ugh. What a nightmare. But, then again, contradicting what I just said earlier, having the Green Bay game early in the year this year is a pretty big break. It's just one less thing to have to worry about. |
