Sedrick Ellis to be traded?

Know with a rookie contract with two years left and Sedrick Ellis' lack of conditioning in the past season, have to wonder if the Saints aren't getting ready to trade him if (pardon) he doesn't shape up and perform as to his draft status...

Aubrayo signed, Rogers signed, it gets interesting...

Ellis is due ~1.66 mil this year and ~2.22 mil next he has an attractive contract to would-be trade suitors...

That really was my first thought.

Anyways... you do realize both Franklin and Rogers are signed to one year contracts? Ellis will soon be entering his prime and is a very good football player.

Papz you may want to geaux check out training camp...

I get the experience/prime thing; but has he performed at a level expected when he was drafted/signed?

With Jordan falling to Saints - Saints didn't take DT as was prognosticated...

You're right about contract situation of vets, but next year is next year...

Yes I believe he has... especially considering the instability of the NT position on our team over the years. He had a hell of a year last season playing next to Remi, who graded out as one of the worst starting NT's in the league last season(not to be mistaken... I do like Remi). Now with Rogers and Franklin both on board, I expect Ellis to continue to grow into one of the best 3 technique DT's in the league. He anchored our 4th ranked defense last season with little help on both sides of him.

the title of this thread first scared me then when i opened it it pissed me off lol. If he is out of shape give the big fella some time to just get back into shape. You dont just trade someone because they come into training camp a little out of shape after sitting through a lockout. Especially when that player is a valuable asset to your defensive line

VillainAgain 08-02-2011 09:58 PM

I dunno about bein out of shape, but to quote John Gruden "Sedrick Ellis is the real deal!"

papz 08-02-2011 09:59 PM

It's not uncommon... that a 300 plus pound defensive tackle comes into camp a little out of shape. Quite frankly, it happens a lot.

Ashley 08-02-2011 10:10 PM

God I hope not! He will kick some ass this year, he shouldn't be getting double covered as much with our other big boys in the game.

Rugby Saint II 08-02-2011 10:19 PM

I don't seea trade in his immediate future. Both the big boys are signed to one year contracts and are 30 or older. I don't know how much they have to give or for how long. They should be good for a couple of years(maybe 3) and Ellis is just beginning to blossom. I'll bet he stays.

saintfan 08-02-2011 11:43 PM

Big Sed ain't gowin nowhere. This thread should take a journey though. LOL

hagan714 08-02-2011 11:55 PM

lmao it sure did make people post. trade? nah we upgraded NT not DT.

Thanks papz for getting that out. it was ellis that was doubled many a games in 2010.

Crusader 08-03-2011 12:17 AM

I just can't see him get traded. He is too important for our defence. I think this year will be his real breakout year.

LBCutta 08-03-2011 05:29 AM

Let's not get besides ourselves. Big Sed is going nowhere. We are signing alot of D Linemen but they are rotational guys. I dont think they are enough for us to trade Sed...

Hope so too. For what we moved and traded for, am still waiting for that breakout year...

TheDeuce 08-03-2011 07:38 AM

No offense jp, but that would be the stupidest move of the offseason.

Speedy Ron 08-03-2011 07:54 AM

can i dislike this thread anyway?

Euphoria 08-03-2011 08:21 AM

Attractive contract means we keep him as a back up until we can no longer carry him. And hope for the best that he steps up.

Maverick2299 08-03-2011 09:03 AM

He is going to be with them for a long time. He led the team in sacks last year.

Cruize 08-03-2011 09:18 AM

Ellis is a good player. He's not a great player. But, he's still young, he's good enough, and his salary isn't too high for his production so far. There's no way they trade him unless there's something very broken behind the scenes.

Which is exactly my point...

The question is does he have the motor to warrant the move the Saints made to get him or does he drift along at the level of play he's given to now...

The Rogers and Franklin signings are upgrades, but not that much as Ayodele and Hargrove were solid contributors...

foreverfan 08-03-2011 06:07 PM

He ain't going anywhere.

jeanpierre 08-03-2011 10:18 PM

Forever, who's your new girlfriend?

SapperSaint 08-04-2011 09:59 AM

If he is moved, he would be another one of those perfect examples of former Saints players that hit their stride as soon as they are gone. He is, right now, perfectly positioned to break out and I think we ought to let him do it right here.

It shouldn't - not for what they get paid!!

I am NOT saying we should trade him.

BUT there is no reason that ANY of these guys should show up out of shape.
