New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams guessed that All-Pro San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis was "crying in his milk" Wednesday morning after his former teammate, nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin, left to sign a deal with the Saints.
Whether or not that was true, Saints middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma was certainly smiling when asked about his team's latest super-size acquisition. Franklin (6-foot-1, 317 pounds) has gained a reputation as one of the best run stoppers in the NFL. Along with fellow newcomer Shaun Rogers (6-4, 350), he will help take on blockers, allowing playmakers like Vilma to roam free. "I always say if I have a good game, it's always because of my defensive line," Vilma said. "If I have 10, 15 tackles, trust me, it's not because of me. It's because of those guys up front doing a great job. "I know what Franklin's about. I saw him in San Francisco. Everyone knows what Shaun Rogers is about. So I'm excited. |

This is beyond words for me.
I'm a "defense" guy. I love seeing 300-400 pound D-Linemen, running a fumble or INT down the field for a TD. I LOVE IT! I have the full expectation of the Saints being inside the top 5 in defense this year. If not, I will consider the year a total loss. The FO has gotten this team some great and much needed help on Defense. The only short comings I see now are at Safety and OLB. We get those two slots filled and the Saints will be beastly! |

I hear you SS. The next 2 years have serious potential to add to the golden age of the Saint football. Whatever needs to be done needs to happen.

I have to wait to see if the guys we got now will be the same guys on the field in September. I have been excited in the past when we have acquired some of the bigger dudes and later be disappointed when they end-up on the sidelines "grabassing" and drawing a huge salary because of some stupid injury that comes from being so grossly out of shape.
