Because thats how it always was done? I'm all for cutting practises down as long as you get done what you need. Its one thing to be a 16-17 year old kid in highschool having two-a-days, then your body heals real fast and its not a big deal but the difference is monumental once you get older.
I'm close to 30 and still playing. I've been to numerous national team camps in the summer with both 2 and 3 practises a day and I can tell you its no walk in the park anymore. You get tired and sloppy and a lot pore injury prone, and the reps become lower quality.
