who called the play?
In the Dallas game with less than a minute to go on 2nd and ten Brooks took the snap and ran to the sidelines and out of bounds allowing Dallas to save their last time out. Ultimately Dallas got the ball back with 25 seconds to go. The Saints , thankfuly, managed to hang on and win. Who was stupid enough to call that play? Those type of mistakes are what cost the season.

who called the play?
That\'s a McCarthy-ism if I ever saw one. Brooks is not blameless on that play (he should have slid down 3 yards before the sideline), but why call that play when you have one of the best RBs in the game and all you need to do is run out the clock.
I understand that getting a first down would have sealed it, but that was just idiotic. One of my biggest problems with McCarthy was his incessant need to give Deuce the ball on 3 & 1 and 4 & 1 all year regardless of how well the o-line had been performing that particular game. He called the same play against Dallas even though they\'d done great against Deuce all day. It\'s just plain stupid. When you get a RB \'s reputation up as Deuce\'s was (is), you use him as a decoy. McCarthy has built a good offense and his playbook seems ok, at best. But his playcalling is horrendous and cost us at least 3 games. |
