Olin Kreutz

Thought he did a good job on the line tonight...only pressure on Drew was from the right side...

QBREES9 08-13-2011 12:07 AM

Stinch gave up a sack I heard.

Maverick2299 08-13-2011 02:41 PM

stinch needs to get some soap and clean up his act

homerj07 08-13-2011 06:39 PM

Stinch & BUshrod had some problems - from what I could see

No doubt Stinch wasn't good, but in that sack play Drew could've moved to right instead of continuing to the left and into the gap between the G&T while avoiding the sack.

Isn't that what "pocket presence" is about?

You got yelled at by Canton. No shame in that. He knows football and the rest of us are idiots.

gandhi1007 08-13-2011 09:32 PM

Stinchcomb has never been solid. Mediocre at best, but never the bookend some people have claimed him to be (we won't mention names). I, for one, hope Strief beats him out in camp, so that Drew doesn't get beat up too bad. The interior line looked great, though!

QBREES9 08-13-2011 09:44 PM

I still want to Zach out there.

Cruize 08-14-2011 06:46 AM

Stinchcomb will start and be serviceable. I was hoping the Saints could have found another late roung gem like Nicks and Evans in the draft at guard and moved Nicks out to RT. Nicks and Evans on the same side. Game over. LOL.

Saint_LB 08-14-2011 07:07 AM

I'm really not one of those guys that watches the interior as I've mentioned before...I wish I did more often...but...how can you not like a guy nicknamed "Stinky"? :) or :(

Ashley 08-14-2011 08:36 AM

I've always called him Sh**comb, always seen him as a problem. Just can't get anyone better it seems, or I have been really hard on him since we drafted him.

Speedy Ron 08-14-2011 03:11 PM

stench was supposedly hurt last year...that was the excuse. i wonder what his excuse is now...

All the fans saying bad things about him hurt his feelings.

CantonLegend 08-14-2011 05:01 PM

you guys need to start watching stinch instead of just plugging his name into all your complaints.

all of the offensive lines around the league are behind because of the lockout. on top of that, the defenses are always ahead of the offenses this early. everybody knows how good our line actually is but you gotta complain about somethin so you pick players whos performances cant be judged by stats. the only way to prove they played well is to show ppl the individual plays and nobody is going to do that

mighty12 08-14-2011 05:17 PM

Canton, I just watched the game again, and Drew was getting constant pressure from the right side. Stinch could NOT block. Not sure if he has issues reading the pass rush out of a 3-4 but he looked bad. One play in particular, on the first drive, his man beat him inside and got a good lick on Drew. Not something I want to see on game day.

something a lot of ppl do is watch the ball then when something bad happens they look where the guy came from and assume it was that persons fault. very few ppl actually watch the line from start to finish and can tell you what happened.

im not defending poor line play because there were a lot of mistakes made by our linemen in game 1 but you guys are bringin up a valid point the wrong way.

not every problem can be traced to an individual player and pressure from the right doesnt have to be stinchs fault...and its usually not

Stinch was getting beat..LBs and DEs...he is turning into a turnstile. I made sure and watched him exclusively while he was in... We need an upgrade there..as was stated above he is going to get Drew hurt if he doesn't hold down the right side..

strato 08-14-2011 06:34 PM

I don't HAVE to insult you Canton, I simply enjoy it.

saintsfan1976 08-14-2011 10:33 PM

Sure easy to pick out mistakes in one game...

But DON'T change it!!

mighty12 08-15-2011 08:44 AM

I like the blanket comment "everyone must be watching the ball while I am watching the line." when I re-watch a game it allows for me to watch the line play.......stinch did not look good. As I stated in my post, he got beat to the inside. How do I know this? I watched him from beginning to end. I think the fact that Strief is competing for the starting role says alot about how the coaches feel.

jnormand 08-15-2011 08:46 AM

This thread is getting all crazy. I want in on it!!

My opinion: I think Bushrod and Stench are over rated.

strato 08-15-2011 08:50 AM

I guess when we see Stinch get pushed back or spun around and Drew get sacked from the right side we must be imagining it..Hmmmm

mighty12 08-15-2011 09:01 AM

The third series is where he had his best performance, passing off the DE and getting back quick enough to take the LB. Meachum should have caught the damn ball. My opinion is that Drew makes our Tackles look a lot better than they really are.

mighty12 08-15-2011 09:05 AM

I am excited for the season, so I keep posting. This is my fairness post. In all fairness Strief was getting beat by the same guy. On the chase Daniel run, he was flushed by poor blocking from strief.

strato 08-15-2011 09:16 AM

I am worried about the line as whole or lack thereof for the RBs...i dont know about everyone else...but i re-watched the game last night and there was no running room for the RBs...i kinda think our 0- line is overrated a tad bit..the First sting offense was out of sync bad..I hope that gets better soon and doesnt carry over from last season..The D looked fine and ready to take out the seattle loss on teams this year...

Exactly what I saw too. The SF D-line won their LOS battle, and it wasn't close.

Maverick2299 08-15-2011 09:23 AM

we will definitely know after this next pre-season game. Hopefully Sean and the O-line coach, get it under control.

alexonfyre 08-15-2011 10:20 AM

I am curious, do you think our O-line might have been sold out by Goody? I mean, he probably could have told them how to get around each of the blocking schemes and how to recognize them, which made their line look a lot better than they actually are.

It's possible but offensive lineman still have to have good technique. There is only so much Goody could have told them that would help. Not enough to completely shut us down like they did. Our first unit better get their **** straight.

I've been saying our O-Line is overrated since Aaron Brooks was running for his life because of it. Nothing has changed IMO, and Drew makes up for a lot of it. Oh how I long for a line similar to the one the Cowboys won all those Championships behind in the 90s.

I don't know if I would want to exchange the guards the Saints have at the moment for anyone else in the league - Nicks needs to get a long term contract.
The main weakness remains at the tackle position, but I would evaluate even those spots to be better than average compared to the rest of the league.
It's hard to say anything about the center position yet, but I have to say that I was very impressed with Korey Hall's blocking even though the sample was very limited - he'll definitely be an upgrade in that regard to Evans.

Bringing up Brooks and Brees in the same sentence is unfair to both of them, but for very different reasons. :-)
