Given the the 49ers are 1 atom short of a vacuum, I was not impressed at all by the performance of the game.
Our D picked on an o-line in complete disarray and a gameplan that did not even envision blitz. Is there a death penalty clause for a spin move by a Saint D-lineman? Our O-line was abysmal. We should just stick posts in the ground and call them tackles. Run blocking looked random. Only against the 9er 3rd string did there appear to be any pocket depth. Does anyone on offense know how to engage a block? Receivers ran poor routes, looking like they were more worried about seeing the ball leave the qb's hand (so they could stop running if not) rather than being where they were supposed to be. Special teams were decent. I don't care about the return td, I'm more interested in coverage. Much better than last season. Moorstead has improved, let's hope he can do the same outdoors on grass in the winter. Hartley still has the hooks. Brees made at least 3 bad decisions in 4 throws. His lone completion was lucky the defender wasn't in the proper place. However, he has reason to make a quick judgment because he ust sense he's living on borrowed time with the line performance. Backs have to hit the hole with more speed. Ingram did that once and scored. Corners are going to be a weakness as it seems they can't stop getting injured. WR's couldn't get separation from their defenders unless they were on the sidelines not playing. Either they can't run precise routes or are easy to read. Either way, there's no respect. I guess the upshot is, given that this O has been together for basically 4 years, they looked about as bad as the 9ers who've been together 3 weeks. Next week needs to be more effective or I'm going to have to re-evaluate my prediction that this is a SB contender. Our preseason schedule is easier than playing IVY leaguers during exam week. It is unacceptable to be so off. |

At this point in time, San Fran is probably an early favorite for the worst team in the league. A brand new coach, a new system, and our starters blitzed them 18 times in the first half. You rarely get blitzed in pre-season and I'm sure San Fran wasn't expecting it. I suspect that we really aren't as dominant as we looked Friday night, but it was impressive regardless. The team speed was noticably faster. Xan, I was impressed but no, we aren't the 1999-2000 Ravens yet. |

*dust* puff up behind him. I'm sure they'll have it shipshape by the regular season. Beer prices don't bother me cause I don't drank the stuff, and I'm a chick so I could care less about the Saintsations. But it's always good to hear a report LIVE! FROM INSIDE THE SUPERDOME! ![]() |
