Though I will agree Gruden lucked out that year. Not only in inheriting a great team from Dungy, but then getting the perfect matchup in the Super Bowl. I don't think any other team could have beat the Raiders that year. Gruden was going up against the team he was head coach of the year before. The Raider's HC was his former OC, they were running Gruden's offense. He knew the schemes, the verbage, the coaches, the offensive and defensive players, all their strengths and weaknesses. Gruden could have done the game planning off the top of his head and been better prepared than any other coaching staff that spent weeks drowning themselves in tape of the Raiders. |
