2004 mock draft (saints only)
Round 1: Derick Strait CB Ohio State (maybe most NFL ready corner in nation) Round 2: Chad Lavalais DT LSU (This can make the the Saint's D-line dominant for years) Round 2: (via rams) Nick Leckey Kansas St. OG/C (Fontenot may not be back, is old) Round 3: Devery Henderson WR LSU (Speed, gives Saints reason to drop Pathon, like he did most passes thrown to him this season) Round 4: jarret Payton RB Miami (Saints need backup RB, sweetness jr. can add depth) |

2004 mock draft (saints only)
Saints shouldnt take Payton in the 7th rd. he shouldnt even be starting at Miami, you bring him to LSU he gets no playing time, come on be smart.
I believe Saints should take Sean Taylor out of Miami, and if Michael Clayton declares, he would be an awesome pick up. |

I agree Payton is a 7th rounder at best... I have my eye on 2 LB\'s in the first round that may fall to the Saints if not then CB Deangelo Hall

2004 mock draft (saints only)
I\'m only guessing, but I\'m not sure that Lavalais will be there by the time we pick in the second round. I have him going late 1st-early 2nd.
Look for DJ to be a top 12 pick, if he falls to us at the 18th pick, I\'ll samba, butt-naked, at Gayland Retirement Home. [Edited on 5/1/2004 by BlackandBlue] |

Lavalais - it just depends on who\'s chart you look at... some have him going before our second pick and some have him late second rounder but its a matter of best player available and needs. There maybe a rush on a particular position and I hear that DJ Williams is dropping not because anything he as done just that position needs for certain teams. He could slide 6 back right in our laps. I personally like 2-3 CBs at our 1st round pick but some sportwriters/friends of mine have him dropping into our hands and I have to pick him up and risk that CB being there for us in round 2.

2004 mock draft (saints only)
I\'ll hold off on making hard core predictions until the following occurs:
1. Last day to declare for the draft comes and goes. I\'m not even sure when this is, but how can you predict a draft without even knowing who all is going to be at the table. 2. The combine is over with. It may not be as impactful as it once was, but players will go up and down the draft boards until then.

2004 mock draft (saints only)
Don\'t you guys think that we\'ll be better able to pick up a CB in free agency. With Fred Thomas, we don\'t really need to draft a top rate corner. It just seems to me that, despite my desire to see Al Wilson in Black and Gold, it is unlikely that we\'ll be able to get an impact linebacker in FA.
What about packaging our first and maybe a second or third round pick to get high enough to get DJ? Would he be worth it? |
