If the Saints watch the BAL-ATL game closely, they will see the Ravens established a blueprint on how to control Vick. PIT was doing a good job (15 yards on 4 rushes) until the fourth quarter when they thought they had the game won. If we maintain good ball control to keep our defense fresh, we should have no problem with ATL. Dale Carter\'s return will allow us to control the run a lot better than we did in the first game.

Key to victory in Atlanta???

There has been a lot of really good feedback on the question I posted a few days ago. Thanks to everyone who posted their opinions.

Pak, I seem to recall Vick throwing his first int. a 2 weeks ago, but I may be mistaken.

I certainly agree with Gatorman in that containing Vick and punishing him whan he attempts to run will be key factors. Vick is still playing with reckless abandon and if our guys can level him a few times, I have no doubt that his running threat will be greatly diminished.

I also believe that our o-line has to gel better than it did last week, because any offensive coordinator worth his salt will see what the Panthers did with the rush against the SAINTS last week and try to build on that perceived weekness. So, if we are to truly have a balanced offense, Brooks has got to be able to feel more comfortable in the pocket on pass plays -- a good passing game opens up the run.

WhoDat, I also agree that Carter looked good in his first week back and certainly was a welcome contributor. Still, I don\'t think our defense took advantage of the boost in downfield pass coverage enough. I think we should use our now freed-up coverage guys to blitz more frequently. Plug the holes, send guys around the outside and lay Vick out as much as possible (the same idea, but just a little more subtly than Roturn\'s approach).

Oh well, those are just my opinions for now.

i think the best thing for the saints to do is give the falcons a healthy dose of deuce early and often, and keep pounding the ball, he broke 2 long runs last game, and he\'ll likely break more off next game, and that will open up play action passing, and keep their blitzing at bay, i think the falcons are scared of the big play ability of deuce, and they will respect that.

Granted we need to contain Vick. That is what every team states. I agree the Dunn is equally as great a threat. I cring every time our opponent sets up a screen pass, we get murdered with that play every game. I think every screen run against us this year has netted 40+ yards. With Dale Carter back I think he matches up well against Jefferson and Thomas should be able to contain Finneran. I think defensively, our way to win is to generate inside pass rush, but in controlled lanes. Outside we need to contain, and there needs to be a LB spying Vick, a LB spying Dunn, and a LB assisting in coverage on Crumpler. We need to make Vick pass the ball to beat us, not let him run up the middle and press him to roll out and shorten the field width himself.
Offensively, we need ball control. Run the Deuce down their throats, be unpredictable on short yardage, and stretch the field width with some short outside passes and keep the LB\'s wide and the safeties away.

Good post lumm.

Everyone seems to agree that Vick needs to be stifled, but only a couple of members have said much about shutting down the rest of the Falcons\' running game.

I agree that another great use of our newly freed-up coverage guys would be to stop that all-to-dangerous screen pass.

I don\'t believe Vick can beat us if we limit him to having to rely on passing the ball downfield. Hell, I can\'t think of many teams that could.

With everything the SAINTS have going for them this season, if they can truly ratchet up their defensive pressure, they\'ll go really far. I won\'t jinx it by mentioning the S.B. word...

#1: my last post wasnt in regards to you, and the reason i said it was me in the first place was b/c daviddrake had said dat only a few members were worried about other members of da falcons team but in fact, i had been saying it for quite some time now.
#2: my post, \" the key to winning in atl. is scoring more points then the falcons do\" , is called something like \"sarcasm\" or a \"joke\" haha, u do have a sense of humor, dont u?
#3 my post about pretending to be the guy from \"the last boy scout\" was in response to roturns post about breaking vicks knee and hand, and that was also considered to be \"a joke\" so dont get all cramped up about some of the things i have said, i know what i say, i dont do it to piss anyone off, but u take some stuff way to seriously. take some medication to help urself calm down or something. it was all a big joke, im sorry u couldnt see that, maybe u should work on ur character skills, seek some counciling or something. cant u just see that we like to have fun? or are u just not a social person?

I hope they blitz like crazy. We will shred them if they do, and we can outscore anyone if they want a shootout. A lot of 7 and 8 man run stopping fronts should be able to contain Vick. The Atlanta receivers don\'t scare me. If we are going to blitz, come in on a delay, don\'t just get a lot of over-pursuit that leaves holes in the middle of the field for Vick to run to; bottle him up and then come at him.
