Based on his play on the field, his involvement with the community, his importance to the revival (dare I say he was the savior) of our franchise, his leadership among his peers, etc, etc, IMO he should be the highest paid player in the NFL.
I'm sure he'd take less. I doubt that the "Highest Paid" status is terribly important to him. All the more reason to make it so. |

Drew swam the Mississippi with New Orleans on his back......he won't get what he's worth because he understands how each player needs money too. But he will get what he wants.

I'm surprised this isn't getting more pub on this site. I'm a big St. Louis Cardinals fan, so I know how excruciating it can be to not know what's going to happen to your favorite player and franchise icon when free agency comes a knocking. If Mickey and the boys cane lock him down, that's a HUGE story.

Yeah, I don't think anyone doubted that they wouldn't work out a new deal after most of the smoke cleared.
This is kind of a double-edged sword when you think about it - I would love for Brees to get rewarded for what he has done for this franchise by making him the highest payed player, but on the other hand, I would love them to sign him as cheap as possible in order to make cap room for other players. Anyway, I think the deal will be for 5-6 years, which is what SP referred to as the time frame in the recent interview. |
