Don't give up on this guy just yet. This is a major adjustment for all involved, give them a little time to work it out. Kasey is the best option for the Saints right now, no one should have expected this to be easy. Kasey is dealing with a new team and holder, he is probably shaking a little rust off, and have to remember everything in the kicking game is now the opposite side of what it was just a few days ago. These guys will come together and everything should be fine.

The snapper has to get the ball to the holder at a spot that will make it easy for him to make the transition with some "snap" on it. The holder's job is to take the ball, set it at the desired, predetermined spot, tilt it in some cases depending on the kicker's desire, and, very important that he "spin" the laces outward so not to distract the kicker. Holding is an artform that most people completely don't realize. Of course, then there's the kick. If any of the previous things that I mentioned are slightly off, or, God forbid, grossly off, it will affect the kicker's psyche...and kickers are kinda flaky to begin with. The fact that Kasey is left-footed may present a new challenge to the guys that are holding. It is possible that they may have to do everything backwards, now...like holding the ball with a different hand. I'm not sure about that...but I do remember, having kicked a little myself a long, long time ago...and there was one time when we had a left-handed QB and he was holding the ball with the wrong hand, and his elbow was sticking out. It distracted me and I requested a new, quick-handed, and more importantly, right-handed holder. |
Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!
