New Orleans Saints Week 1 Recap: Packers Outwit, Outplay and Outlast Saints

Well, the two most recent Super Bowl winning teams certainly delivered the goods on opening day in the NFL, that’s for sure! After an intense battle on the field, only one team emerged victorious but both teams definitely survived to play another day, and the rest of a long season.

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints and Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers lived up to every one of the predictions calling for a shootout at the O.K. Corral in Thursday night’s season opener up at Lambeau Field.

Though the end result, with the final score of 42-34 in favor of the home team, was not what Saints fans were hoping for, it was certainly nothing for any of them to be ashamed of either. Green Bay looked like they didn’t miss a beat from where they left off last postseason when they marched straight through the ranks of the best of the best in the NFL on their way to claim the World Championship as the winners of Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas on February 6, 2011. Many lesser teams would have simply laid down and quietly accepted their ultimate fate at the hands of the so-far indisputable Kings of the Gridiron, but not these New Orleans Saints. They accepted the challenge and fought tooth and nail for every last point they could muster in a valiant attempt at unseating the reigning champions from their royal throne.

Man I hope we don't have to play the Packers again to get to the Superbowl and
I certainly don't want to travel to Green Bay.

No, we need to play the Packers every week until we crush them.

We need that first series back. Our receivers had rested for 2 weeks and it showed. Your first series against that defense and already down 7 was not time to warm up our receivers.

They owned us as soon as they were up 14.

AlaskaSaints is 100% right! Give us that fumble back and that first drive becomes the turning point back in our direction if we had kept it going and scored a TD to tie it up early on. Like I said in my article, that one play was the key to the game going Green Bay's way and causing the Saints to have to play catch-up all night long. Shoulda, woulda, coulda been a whole different game if that one fumble would not have happened like it did...

I think when you take it easy in the preseason, which we did. No sense of urgency. It carries over into the season, I feel this is what happened to the Saints in week 1. Our preseason was dull , boring,uneventful.. Do we blame this on the lock out, maybe, the coaching staff had to see who we needed to keep and I feel that took away from needed to be focused on in the preseason.

As far as a game plan for that game. It was out the window after we fell behind 14- 0.. Our interior offensive line which is supposed to be the best in the league was owned by B. J . Raji... Our pick up blocking out of the backfield was terrible.. We just real looked flat, to be going into a game of this caliber..

But on the bright side, we had a chance to win this game.. Call it bad play calling, bad execution, whatever, we still had a chance to win it..

Now we need to take the extra time till the next game, and focus on Chicago.. We need to stop there running game ( Forte) and put tons of pressure on Cutler..
