New Orleans Saints Week 1 Recap: Packers Outwit, Outplay and Outlast Saints
Well, the two most recent Super Bowl winning teams certainly delivered the goods on opening day in the NFL, that’s for sure! After an intense battle on the field, only one team emerged victorious but both teams definitely survived to play another day, and the rest of a long season.
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints and Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers lived up to every one of the predictions calling for a shootout at the O.K. Corral in Thursday night’s season opener up at Lambeau Field. Though the end result, with the final score of 42-34 in favor of the home team, was not what Saints fans were hoping for, it was certainly nothing for any of them to be ashamed of either. Green Bay looked like they didn’t miss a beat from where they left off last postseason when they marched straight through the ranks of the best of the best in the NFL on their way to claim the World Championship as the winners of Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas on February 6, 2011. Many lesser teams would have simply laid down and quietly accepted their ultimate fate at the hands of the so-far indisputable Kings of the Gridiron, but not these New Orleans Saints. They accepted the challenge and fought tooth and nail for every last point they could muster in a valiant attempt at unseating the reigning champions from their royal throne.
