New Orleans Saints Week 2 Recap: Saints Welcome Cutler with a Bang

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints got back to .500 (1-1) today in their home opener against the Chicago Bears in a grudge match win that corrects a four-game losing streak to the Monsters of the Midway. One of those losses came in the 2006 NFC Championship Game in Chicago which put a sudden halt to the Saints‘ historic run at the Big Game one year after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

After starting out a little slow and losing the first quarter 3-7, that would be all the Saints would lose in this game. New Orleans would go on to win the second 13-3, the third 7-3 and the fourth 7-0 to secure a 30-13 victory over the Chicago Bears. Actually, aside from the fact that it appeared the Bears brought members of the Chicago Mafia with them dressed up as the officiating crew, they were held to only two field goals all day if you take away the gimme TD which came courtesy of a couple very questionable calls that moved their initial possession closer and closer to the endzone.

Some tell-tale team stats from this game were total net yards of 382 for the Saints compared to 246 for the Bears along with the time of possession battle being won by New Orleans by a margin of 36:14 to 23:46 as well as the Saints winning both the TD race 3-1 and the FG competition 3-2.
