Roman Harper - NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Official_Saints New Orleans Saints
Congrats to @Harp41 who was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week! Harper had 7 tackles & 2 sacks vs. the Bears!
Money well spent.

strato 09-20-2011 03:37 PM

Congrats ..now get ready to cover Daniels and Dreesen...

dizzle88 09-20-2011 03:41 PM

It was well deserved Harper! I love seeing the Bernie Dance after he gets a sack.

I saw a great stat about Roman Harper the other day;

He took over the lead for the most sacks by a safety since 2006, he has 12 sacks in 5 years now, for a safety!!!

Predictable.

We know our LB's certainly can't, and most SS's in this league can't either. Harper is no worse than other SS's in the league covering great TE's. But I'm sure if they complete 2 or 3 passes to a TE, regardless of how perfect the pass is, we'll hear how he's a "liability" against TE's.

Most sacks and most forced fumbles since 2006.

Like I said, a lot of people here owe Harper an apology.

A lot of people here don't know the difference between a CB and a SS either.

I'm thinking the entire team better be ready, not just Harper.

Ashley 09-20-2011 04:07 PM

Hell YEA! He deserves it.

FinSaint 09-20-2011 04:13 PM

It's nice he got the recognition he deserves after a performance like that... he was able to play to his strengths, which all of us knows is on the physical side of the ball.

Well Congratz... But this week gonna be different, Texans got game...

1) Matt Shaub
2) Andre Johnson
3) Owen Daniel

Harper is going to have to play against the pass some this week, thats where he tends to get lost..

But non the Less gotta give him 2 thumbs up for his performance this week.

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

If they are accusing him of sucking, absolutely.

I think if Harper's list of primary concerns has Johnson and Daniels up high on it, then that would be bad game planning. Let's have our in the box blitzing strong safety focus on attacking their line of scrimmage and change Schaub's line of sight. Why put our players in a position to not maximize their abilities?

Because our linebackers can't do it, so that leaves Harper.

Same as not being worth it..lol....that was my biggest gripe about Harper..the money...if he keeps popping the QB and learns to cover better..i will change my mind on that to...How about Junyah he has as many sacks..and some people still want him cut????..I guess it all depends on the fan.:D

Who wants JUNIOR cut? He's played damn good.

I agree ..but the Texans have been watching film on that nightmare in Seattle ..and they will try and expose him..if he can just run with them and get help over the top..or at least wrap up after the catch..Ive been listening to some of the radio here...they are well aware of his lack of coverage skills..so G.W needs to make sure he has some help...The one that scares me the most and you really cant stop is A.J..he will get his...we just have to stop everyone else..

You mean the Seattle game where he made 2 mistakes the entire game?

I'll bet their licking their chops looking at the Lynch run moreso than those two Harper plays, one of which was a fake lay dawn and act blocked trick play.

The only reason they'll target Harper is because they won't target Greer, Porter or Jenkins. My guess is they attack our weakass LB's on the edge.

Every team wants to target a SS matched up against a stud TE. Thats nothing new in this league. Harper holds his own for a SS.

Brees would target a SS against Graham also, regardless of who that SS is.

So you think the Texans will be targeting Harper all game with the Okie Doke huh?

My guess is their determining ways to prevent Harper from knocking Schaub out of the game.

That and the cutback run..and yeah ..look for Owen Daniel to get a lot of passes..One thing that will help is Foster is out..but then again Tate is just as dam lethal so far this year..

jeanpierre 09-20-2011 05:55 PM

Best way to protect Harper as a Pass Liability is to run nickel packages and let him blitz...

I believe it was already pointed out by Mike Triplett how big a liability he is in pass coverage but that that he does well with the blitz...

Who did the Bears have to cover of note?!?

Let the season progress, have a body of work, and then see where things lie...

Casillas showed excellent speed on his linebacker blitz...

Houston definitely has better receivers than Chicago, so we'll get another good test like Week 1...

You mean like last year when Harper rated one of the best DB's limiting TE's and got more gameballs than anyone else on the defense?

That would certainly be nice, but I don't see it happening.

lynwood 09-20-2011 07:24 PM

I always liked Harper since day one cause he brings the wood! Tough physical Safty.

homerj07 09-20-2011 07:50 PM

There is not a SS alive who can stop every pass - All we can ask is that they don't give up the big play. Harper was able to do that last week lets hope he can do it again this week!

Crusader 09-21-2011 01:20 AM

I bet the Texans have been watching film on Harper and I guarantee that the WRs and TEs has taken extra notice to him knocking that Bear reciever out of the game with a crushing hit...

jnormand 09-21-2011 09:49 AM

That was a mean hit!!

JoanieNTX 09-21-2011 10:02 AM

I've always been a Roman Harper fan! He's a keeper!

Agree totally

darstep 09-21-2011 01:10 PM

Good job Harper. He might not be a 4.2 40 guy, but that's why he's the "strong" safety. The strong part more than makes up for his gear ratio. Harper is one of the few guys we have that won't close his eyes, and will actually hit somebody, and knock them on their ash. Harper has ten other guys to cover for his weaknesses, in fact, all the guys are covered. Harper is definitely top5 in the league.
Now, all those stunts may have work on Frisco, Oakland, and a crippled Bears team, but Charles Schwab knows how to count money. He can throw it up with the best of them, and has the guys that know how to go get it, and are experienced enough to flop for the referees. Neither do we want Tate (or Foster if he's ready) to break the 1st line of defense and already have 8 guys behind him. We will have to play this one mostly straight up, and be able to get pressure with 4-5 for most of the game. This will be another real test, especially if Foster plays. I hate to say it, but Harper may have to lead the team in tackles again this week.

Is it certain that Porter will be able to start on Sunday?

:bs:
Find a quote from anyone on this board stating that they want Junior cut.

But that's not the point of this thread. Nor is it the point to bring up Harper's contract and wonder how he'll play this weekend.

The point is that Harper was great against the Bears last weekend and deserves credit for playing so well.

AlaskaSaints 09-21-2011 03:09 PM

There was that game in Seattle last January...

But I'm somewhat of a Harper fan, so I'll get off it.

Congrat's to the man. Gets to the ball. Hits hard once he gets there.

Budsdrinker 09-21-2011 04:16 PM

The head of officiating contacted the Saints today and said that the hit on Cutler was a legal hit and shouldn't have been flagged.

AlaskaSaints 09-21-2011 04:43 PM

The tragedy here is that we have to wait to see which Harper we get.

But, he's in a Saints jersey and I'm happy with that.
