Didn't want him. But, I don't think he would have been awful under Payton.

No. I remember it was just the talking heads calling Drew's injury career threatening. I definitely wanted Brees the second I heard we had a shot at getting him. I had been paying a lot of attention to the Chargers at that point, mainly because of L.T. He was great fun to watch in his prime. I knew damn well Drew was a super high quality QB.

I did think Culpepper could be a good QB, but it was way too soon after his injury for him to be playing. He SHREDDED that knee. He tore the ACL, the MCL, AND the PCL. He should NOT have been on a football field at ALL that season.

Now, before the Drew option came up, the two QBs I was interested in were Kyle Boller and Jon Kitna. After a few rough years, it really looked like Boller finally got it! He was playing his ass off at the end of the '05 season. Then they replaced him with McNair. And Kitna I always felt was a good QB, stuck on a lousy Bengals team. I figured he could be the game manager that we needed in New Orleans. With Deuce and Horn and Pathon we had a good enough offense to win games as long as we had a QB who could actually read a defense and not throw the f'n ball backwards or drop it for no good reason.

We were up near 30 points a game on average during that time as I recall...not to beat a dead horse or anything.

I was a big advocate for drafting Leinart as well. Goes to show you just never know how things work out and their are no sure things as far as draft picks are concerned.

I wanted Leinart at the time, I still thought even after signing Drew they were going to draft Leinart since Sean was/is a QB guru since Drew was such a high risk/reward when he signed .... I like my crow medium/well

I Wanted anybody but AB by Jan of 06

I still have my Aaron Brooks jersey. Never wanted Culpepper. Lienhardt? Didn't really want him although I wouldn't have minded at the time.

No Culpepper was an unfinished book without an ending.

saintsfan1313 09-30-2011 01:38 PM

After Brooks, I wanted the Saints to eliminate the QB position all together, just to prevent any chance of a future occurence of the torment Brooks put us through the last 2 years or so.....

Joking aside, was in Brees' corner as soon as he went FA....as for the draft, i would have used the Bush hype to trade back and get Ngata....knew he was gunna go beast mode...........

UK_WhoDat 09-30-2011 04:20 PM

I did not want Culpepper.

Honest Guv!

Since we're playing the hindsight game. Did you know that the Saints in the 6th round of the 2000 draft took Marc Bulger. The Pats took a guy named Brady and of course we ALL KNEW how good Brady was going to be. If the Saints had taken Brady he would have suffered the same fate as Bulger, cut. After all we had a guy named Brooks and a coach who loved him!!
