Leave the stats to the baseball boys. We'll see it aired out early and often. And the Panties'll put it right back at us.

Those of you who know me know I have been one to speak out against those threads saying we need to run the ball more. Its just not what we do, and we are in the unique position to NOT have to run the ball as much as other teams. That being said, this is one game where we need to run the **** out of the ball. I wouldnt mind if we run more than we pass this week.

Yep, we pass to set up the run, not the other way around. And with Drew's accuracy the short passes we frequently throw are high percentage throws that aren't much different than runs.

The Saints two best years under Payton were with a more balanced attack and with the two highest rushing totals during his tenure. In 2006 the Saints rushed for 1761 and made it to the NFC Championship. In 2009 they rushed 2106 and and won the Super Bowl.
The three worst years under Payton came in 2007 with 1466 rushing yards and no playoffs, 2008 with 1594 rushing yards and no playoffs, and 2010 with 1519 rushing yards and a first round loss in the playoffs. Running the ball controls the clock. Controlling the clock limits the other teams possessions and places less pressure on the defense. Running the ball limits exposing the franchise QB to hits. All good things for the Saints. |

The main advantage to running better is that it keeps opponents off balance and limits turnovers. If teams wanna play soft zones, we'll run it down their throat. If they have to cheat up, we destroy them via the pass. |
