Saints’ 3-back attack rolling
METAIRIE - None of the Saints running backs are approaching the kind of individual rushing numbers that would merit Pro Bowl consideration.
Together, however, Darren Sproles, Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas have become a formidable combination. Jacksonville found that out during a 23-10 loss Sunday in which the Saints amassed 177 yards on the ground. “If you can get each guy 10 to 12 touches a game, it will keep them fresh throughout the game, keep them fresh throughout the season and keep them healthy,” said fullback Jed Collins, who has been busy learning the nuances of blocking for each of them. “Each guy presents such a different threat ... so it’s neat to see how (Saints coaches) are using each one.” Full article below. Ok - A FOUR headed monster.
I know some people think Collins is gone when Ivory comes back - I don't think so. The article had a good point that COllins has been learning the nuamnces of blocking for each of our guys. SP will NOT give up the experience (10 weeks with preseason) especially if we keep rushing for 177 yrds a game!! ![]() |

I would say that Darren Sproles is having a borderline Pro Bowl type year when you take into consideration his success as a receiver and returner. But in any case, I will be very curious to see how Payton incorporates Chris Ivory into the mix when he returns. I was also curious to see if Joique Bell could live up to the promise he showed in the preseason but, alas, it was not to be.

I think Bell is gone. Coach seem to really like Collins.

I hate to say this, but Courtney Roby would be a candidate for release. I know he's the gunner of KOs, but with the new rules, and the inordinately large number of touchbacks on KOs, there is far less need for a gunner. And we have Sproles for the return game. I do believe that when Chris Ivory is eligible to come off PUP, the Saints won't hesitate to put him on the 53-man roster. Whether he will be active right away on game days remains to be seen. Just a thought. |

it was impressive last sunday. i have no doubt that ingram with 25 carries could reach a 100 yrd game if he got rolling. but like mentioned it keeps all fresh not battered like cajun catfish.

Its pretty hard for any of these guys to get a really good rhythm going with only 2-3 carries per quarter. But its hard to argue with +150 yrd results at the end of a game. That's good-positive ground clutter. Playing from behind almost every week hasn't helped either. I think all of these guys would break 100 if they had 20+ carries per game - not going to happen. They will just have to make the most of what they are getting, and enjoy the team success while doing it.
