Next Defensive Coordinator on Display Tonight?
This should stir some of you up as I love healthy discussion...
Scenario: Saints win Superbowl, Greg Williams gets offer as Head Coach... Alternate String: or Saints continue to get torched on defense including playoff loss in Green Bay despite outstanding performance by Brees and Co. and Williams gets shown the door... Initial action: Either way GW exits... I believe one of the best defensive and most underrated coaches hamstrung by a moron of an owner is Jack Del Rio who may become available, would that not be an incredible juxtaposition for him to return to the Saints? |

GW's defense can sure drive a fellow crazy. Sunday night was pretty awesome. The D line played up to snuff. Rogers was a mountain on the inside. You can tell the D line is playing well when even Shanle looks good. It's based on a ball hawk, which right now we don't have. You can tell that by the way the blocking convoy sets up after a pick. When Torrence made his pick, everyone knew right where to be and what to do. Robinson may all of a sudden turn into one, but so far we're still waiting. Until PR or Jenkins steps up, or we find that guy, I'm afraid GW's going to continue to keep us gnawing on the furniture. I'm pretty certain GW didn't have all that much fun as a head coach last time and that may cause him to shy away from trying it again. At the same time maybe he's learned enough from Payton to want to give it a try. If so, I'd put money on Del Rio being available at the end of the season. We could do worse, much worse.
foreverfan, when is that avatar of yours just going to go ahead and rip that red thing off? |

Not sure im the best person to say this ,as its my first post here, but i dont think the defense is THAT bad.Its not on par with the offense ofc,and you can do better, but you can do much worse than Greer,Porter,Jenkins or Harper,to name just a few. What we lack is a dedicated pass rusher to put pressure on the QB ,or more calls that involve pass rushing, like everyone saw in the Bears game.
Lets not forget the best defense of the moment is the Bengals (wtf?!!).I guess there is more to it than just good players, you need to gel all that talent together to make something out of it. |

I still say that a coach only puts players in the right position to make plays.
After that, players have to make plays...in the moment. Our pieces have changed. Whether one step slower, 5 lbs lighter, or whatever we have become, we are only as good as the plays the players make in the moment. Payton, Williams, or even Del Rio, if it comes to that...their success will come from players making plays. They can pick the player, teach the player, prepare the player, but when Sunday comes, they can only watch from the sideline and hope their guys get the job done. |

I TOTALLY DISAGREE the Defense played up to stuff!!!
Did you see them run the ball on us still... there back up RB nearly got 100 yards on us. Our DE's and OLB's were not containing and stopping the run. Each time they ran to the outside there were good runs. They have to contain and force the run back towards the middle. I know I know some clowns will think they only scored 7 but you have to watch the plays we gave up and also take into account who we played an 0-6 offense who make horrible mistakes and we just capitalized. We aren't playing D. I do agree GW won't be taking a HC job, I think he learned his lesson, lol. But I am over his D if he can't teach the guys how to stop the run or tackle he should be gone this off season. |

I'm going to disagree with you here. They had one good series. You'll see that in almost every game you watch. Even teams who suck have some good players and every once in a while they'll find a groove that works. 252 total yards says good D. And before you get all fluffed up about my post, remember that I'm a clown now. That makes me SCARY!!!!
