METAIRIE, La. – For the first week of training camp, Tom Johnson found himself working with the first-team defense, finding a way into the rotation despite first-round pick Sedrick Ellis and free-agent pickups Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin being in the fold.
And in the first preseason game against San Francisco, especially in the first half, he stood out with quick movement and an athletic style of play not seen often in a 6-foot-3, 288-pound defensive tackle. Only, he strained his left calf late in the game. Then he missed seven weeks, including the opening four games of the season, and folks began to wonder why he was kept around to take a roster spot up. “A lot of you were kind of wondering are you going to continue to stick with you,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “I think we saw enough early on and felt strongly enough early on to be patient.” Full article. Now if only Shaun rogers and aubrayo franklin decided to show up the defence would be awesome against the run.
What happened to tuck mcbride anyone? He seemed to get afew sacks and be consistent but I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks |

Must be his agent
Tip of the hat, to 'em Funny how our Rookie Free Agents and Back Half Draft Picks seem to outperform our first round picks; well it balances out in the Saint favor... We finally have a Lombardi, and hopefully a couple of more with Drew... |

Another ex-CFL player who is going to make good in the NFL.
If Johnson turns out to the half the player another ex-CFLer (Cameron Wake) is, the Saints have got themselves a keeper! |

Johnson can really move that 288 lbs around the field.
Early on, in pre-season, he looked the part; great motor. Franklin/Rogers/Ellis may be getting a real push now that Johnson is getting healthy. At least I hope so. Our front 4-7 needs a shot in the arm. Perhaps Johnson is it. |
